Getting Poor Gas Mileage (≤200 miles per full tank)
I hardly post in here, but I've had the R for about five years now, just abou the same time i registered to this site. I bought it with 19K on the odo. Currently I'm at 130K
and Recently chit has been falling apart
It all started at about 128K when the check engine came on, I took it in to my budddies shop to replace my clutch (exedy Stage 2 and exedy flywheel) but he forgot to check the codes before disconnecting the battery. He suggested to gut the cat to help air flow. I've seen then done two oil changes and gas treatment to see if it would help, no dice. With gas prices where they are and they are only going to get worse i really want to fix this. Any help would be great!! I just this morning notice there was i crack in the exhaust manifold
Thanks guys!!!

Beside the clutch and flywheel,
AEM cold air intake
It came with striaght 2.5 piping with an Apex N1 exhaust.
Nothing too major, bought it some NGK wires and plugs too.

MILES PER TANK don't matter.
MILES PER GALLON is what matters.
I can get less than 200 miles per full tank on local mixed driving, if I fill it when the needle gets down below 1/4 tank. I fill it with 8 gallons, for around 25 mpg.
I can get more than 300 miles per full tank on local mixed driving, if I keep going after the warning light goes on, and drive about 50 miles past when the needle is at E. I fill it with 12 gallons, for around 25 mpg.
Different miles per tank, same miles per gallon. Because it all depends on how many gallons you put in it when you drive X miles.
On a long trip with few stops, I can do even better, 28-30 mpg. On the racetrack, I only get around 9 mpg. What still matters is how many gallons you use during X miles.

i would check the engine cel and also do a compression check on the motor to make sure its healthy, you could also have a bad O2 sensor which would lead to poor gas mileage (esp if your throwing a code because the cat is gutted)
btw getting an average of 35mpg with my R lately
btw getting an average of 35mpg with my R lately
thank you guys for all the input
I filled my tank to to the fullest everytime, and reset my trip. When it get half way. I'm at around 90 to 100 miles.
Does anyone warning light not come on? Mine hasn't for sometime, but can't really figure why?

That's way above normal for city driving. Even on a long distance trip, that's above average. If it's not a one-tank measurement error, and you're actually getting 35 mpg tank after tank after tank, good for you!

Which tells absolutely nothing.

Probably because you're not driving it all the way until the needle on the gas gauge is on E. If you fill the tank up when the gauge indicates 1/8 full, the light will never go on. Of course, if that's where you're filling it, you're probably filling it with about 8 gallons, in which case it's normal to drive less than 200 miles on a tankful, as I indicated above.

If you're letting the needle go below E and you're filling it with 11 or more gallons, it should be going on. If it's not, then there's something wrong with it. If you're putting less than 11 gallons in the car, then it may be working properly even if it's not lighting, but you're just not running the tank low enough to light it up.

Ya not to much town driving and its been a couple times lately (95%) highway driving, it helps having a fresh tune up and driving like a granny, im sure the mileage would be better if my engine wasnt in need of a rebuild and i didnt have a cel for the cat

Finding out how much fuel your car is using isn't that complicated. Reset the trip meter when you fill up. Next time you fill up again, note how miles you've done and how many gallons it took to fill the tank this time. miles/gallons= mpg.
I pulled my codes, and it was only repeating the same one. I'm guessing its only one.
67 - Catalyst system Efficiency Below Threshold malfunctioning or defective catalyst system
How accurate is the codes that appear? Even if it didn't come up, can i have a misfire or any other problem with the engine?

it very well could lead to poor economy, ask me how it happens in technical terms and I can't help you.I think it has to do with valve staying open too long allowing fuel to pass with out being burnt. I could be so wrong..... I was explained it one day but don't remember now. Google it. I'm sure you will find somthing.
If the catalytic converter is clogged, it will drastically affect your mileage, although we still don't know if you have a fuel consumption problem or not.

Even if the cat is gutted, it can still get clogged?
Fuel consumption like having a bad valve adjustment?

brim your car, drive it like you normally would for say half a tank, then brim it again.
divide the miles you have done in that time by the amount of fuel it takes to brim it again.
working in US gallons instead of UK gallons (for some reason there are 1.2 US gallons to 1 UK gallon) I've achieved 48mpg on the highway and my average tank when it was used as a daily was over 40mpg, including commuting and some VTEC.
they are capable of being very economical with a good tune and a correct method of driving.
