satin black paint job
I got my integra gsr for 1 grand in really rough shape.. 3 grand later and its running like a champ. It has a salvaged title and has the usual rear quarter panel rust and you can also see some bondo under it. I dont want to spend tons of money on a new paint job so I was thinking of repairing the rust and then painting it some sort of satin black myself (not rattle can). Ive seen satin black cars before and thought they looked amazing. Good idea or bad? All comments appriciated
this is the look ide go for, im in love with this picture

If you're not going to rattle can the satin black then you probably won't save any money. Its still a base/clear paint job. P.S. Crap bodywork will be more obvious under satin colors than anything so be sure you're up for the task.
if i fix the rust i plan on sanding down the whole car to fix the crap body work, i was thinking of getting a spray gun and some buddys of mine that work in body shops to help me out with the body work and respray
Your friend's help should be enough to save a ton of change. I was just saying, due to you trying to save money, that a satin clear/basecoat paint job will cost just as much as a regular paint job.
A correctly done rattle can satin black can look just as good as a satin clear paint job IMO, but it can't be maintained like a standard paint job can. You can't prevent and repair scratches, chips, oxidation, etc on a rattle can paint job the same way.

Its not that there are satin PAINTS. Its the clear that is low-reflective. Your bodyshop friends should be able to better educate you about this and the best colors to use.

Sure. This is done all the time. Normally, depending on the color, surrounding panels are re-cleared to 'blend' into the exsisting paint so you don't see one fresh painted panel surrounded by old paint. Some people spend a little extra and get the rest of the car re-painted. Its usually not that much more and the results speak for themselves.

spoke to my friend and he says they do make actual satin or matte paints but there more expensive to do, he says we can try to blend it and he thinks he will b able to make it look good
My friend paints cars for a living and recently did his EK in some sort of Dupont satin black finish. He attended the Dupont seminar then bought the paint (he said it was expensive). Anyways, heres his car.
