Default obd 0 ecu vs. obd 1 ecu?? why should i switch?

i have a friend who said i should go with a obd 1 ecu vs. my stock obd 0 ecu.

i have no clue what the difference is. i dont plan on getting vtec on the car but i am boosted.

i have a few questions on this.

whats the difference?

whats the positive and negative with doing the swap?

other then getting a new harness for the different ecu what else is needed to make it work on my d16a6?

is it just plug and play or would i need to get it chiped just to get it to run?

well of you get OBD1 then you can get the hondata s300 which would be nice for you since your boosted.

there is no point in coverting a OBD-0 motor to OBD-1. unless u plan on going v-tec but the that is a head swap as well. the only POS i could think of is running vtec but thats about it.

The only benefit would be tuning options, but since you do not have vtec you can use turboedit for obdo ecu's which is pretty good as far as free rom editiors go.

Tuning options mostly.

Personally I've worked with turbo edit I'm much happier with out it.

turbo edit is perfectly fine, im boosted 8 psi and tuned it on obd0 with 450cc injectors. it helps to get a wideband

yes it is , but if you are on the cheap its the way to go, if you are running more boost, better tuning options(obd1) would certainly help, for the run of the mill homemadeturbo install, turboedit and some dsm injectors will get you going pretty safe

only reason i see to upgrade to obd1 is if you are running vtec. as there is no fuel/ignition maps for both low and high cam. turbo edit = rev limiter, launch control, vtec control, even an option to use up to a 3bar map sensor, which i believe is good for at least 30psi.

its been a while since i played with chrome, what features does it have that turboedit doesn't?

crome has many more features than turbo edit. it has much wider support as well. Crome is better in every way, but most of the features it provides aren't really needed if you just have I/H/E.

I can't find a list of options the last version offers of turbo edit to give you a fair comparison, While it's personal preference, turbo edit's interface is not as easy to work with.

i heard that switching to obd1 is better for my civic turbo setup.
and it provides rev and boost limiters that i would need for safety.

is there a list of all the ecu that would work?

I agree, you should get the obd1 ecu. that way you can add an EMS, like Hondata. The reason is tuning: to make your turbo run optimally, you need to dyno the car, and if you have AEM or Hondata, the shop can dial the car in PERFECT on a dyno. It's also the only "right" and "safe" way to run a forced induction application-meaning to keep it from blowing up!!!
You'll need a jumper harness to convert from obd0 to obd1. but you can find those anywhere. Good luck!!
