Default will a type r crank with gsr pistons and rods work together in a ls block

hey guys bought a motor recently took it apart it had a spun bearing the crank is pretty bad. I have a type r crank laying around that probably has to get redone but its in alot better shape then the ls. i also have a set of good gsr pistons and rods can i get that all to work in a ls block , i kno i need to get bearings though besides that what do u guys think?

i have thought about this before it will be just like a gsr if you had a vtec head on it and you wont have to worry about spun rods because the stroke is make to rev high were as the ls crank isn't the only down side is you loose torque.

do i have to worry about the valve clearance , so they dont hit the pistons. its not going to change like top dead center is it?

How can it change top dead center? That is when the piston is at the top. Doh. I would not run run Pro3's or BC5's or Jun stg4's. You might want to buy a "how engines work" book. Make sure the side rod clearance and thrust clearances are correct.

I am pretty sure deck height is the same on all stock b18 blocks so valve clearance isnt an issue.

I doubt that valve clearance will be an issue as the stock LS stroke is 89mm, compared to the GSR's of 87mm. The difference in stroke should make up for the difference in piston dome height. Either way, eager to see how this works out. Good luck w/ the rebuild

I'm building a jdm gsr block w/ ls crank/rods and type r pistons. I'm going to be running the acl race bearings that match my crankshaft. You could either buy some acl standard/race for your type r crank, or you could go with oem. It seems like there's some sort of argument right there on which bearings to go with, but i'm not really clued in on the going ons. I'm sure if you searched the archives, you would find way too much info/opinion on what you should/shouldn't do. You could start where i did, which was bambam's lsvtec build thread.

Lot's of good info there, not exactly what your doing but good info nonetheless.

no they arent there is just about 1.5mm difference between the pr4 and the p73 blocks.
