Default Do Civics Have a Small Fuel Tank?

So my new 08 Civic goes about 120 miles before getting down to the almost half way mark on the fuel gauge. Is this normal? My last VW had a range of around 390 miles before fills. The civic seems like somthing is wrong. My VW had a 14 gal tank.

The civic has a 13 Gallon tank how far you go will depend if you have the si or not and how you drive.

with my driving habits and conditions being the same, and me with the new civic ex model. It think something must be wrong or I'm missing something with a 300 mile range. Does anyone else have the same experience?

well, how many miles to you get out of a full tank? The "almost half way mark" doesn't really tell you much. Try calculating your acual mpg rather than guessing about total miles to a tank. Has your civic had it's first oil change yet?

I'm going to run it down to one bar on this tank. You would think the gauge would be split in the middle though.

i have an ex and for the first half of my fuel bar, it goes down extremely slowly...i can probably get 200+ on the first half driving hard, in traffic (i drive in downtown LA traffic), and driving up hill to get home. from the halfway mark down to 2-3 bars left i will get about 130-140. for me...the last 3 bars have disappeared about every 10 miles. i usually get about 340 miles before fill up with 2-3 bars left.

I just calculated my MPG on my LX coupe. It worked out to 37.7 MPG. Half tank I was at 256 miles. The total fuel capacity of the civic is 13.3 gallons. When the red fuel light comes on, I was told by the dealer that you have approx. 30 miles left till empty. Someone earlier mentioned that the last 3 bars goes down at about every 10 miles, so this makes sense.

I've read on this forum elsewhere, that if you shift around 3000RPM you will be shifting at an optimum fuel burn. There's a chart somewhere on this forum that shows the shift optimums. I try to shift at 3000 whenever possible to get the best MPG, and so far it has worked.

The gauge in my SI is similar. I am at around 90 to 100 miles when it hits 50%. However, I manage a total of 216 to 230 miles before I need a fill up. I usually fill up at about 2 to 3 bars. Fill up is usually around 10 gallons.

Oh, car is a 2006 Civic Coup SI w/Supercharger

I actually just got 335 miles on my '07 Si. Took 11.6 gallons so I averaged nearly 30 MPG. A lot was city too, however I drive with a feather foot and shift early when I'm feeling stingy about gas.

36-38 is a really common average. Most should get well over 350 on a tank. With A/C and normal driving I see 395-400 per tank
