Default cam gear

i installed an adjustable cam gear on my 91 si civic. how do i know how to adjust the cam gear and or the distributor negative or positive degrees to get more power ??

Advancing (positive) the gear and distributor will give you a little more top end and retarding (negitive) will give you a little more bottom end responce, but you lose top end. Unfortunatly, you won't get alot more power out of it without a little tuning, but if you advance both a little bit, you'll notice a difference. I advanced the distributor all the way on my civic and it ran alot better in the top end, only thing is the idle loped. And as far as the cam, I advanced it by a tooth and it never really saw the power ban til about 6000+ rpm. I would probably try about 1/2 a tooth on the advance side of the cam and try that (I'm going to guess it's about three degrees). That's about all I can tell you from my experiance.

What about on a sohc, where you adjust intake and exhaust at the same cam>
