someone tell me why my car sounds like a RICER!!!
it looks like a normal muffler and it is. but i do have headers, and for some reason it still sounds like a ricer! i CANT STAND IT!! help?
it looks like a big resonator or muffler in the middle where the cat should be...i am not sure what it is. do people add something like this to make it sound like that?

right after your header there should be a cat, then after that a resonator, then a muffler before you exit.
check all the gaskets to see if maybe they are leaking. or as stated above a hole in the exaust.
i have a small pinhole that i can see from a little bit of carbon deposit where they welded the hanger on, and it makes a noticeable sound for as small as it is.
im guessing you have a D series motor, to me, they just sound tinny

its the headers!!! you have exhaust coming out the un attached header
just messing with ya
its most likely a after market system and the muffler has gone to crap or the resonator has fallin apart rattling when exhaust goes thru it giving it a raspy sound

It might be because you have more then one header. J/K
I would check your exhaust gaskets, and get a cat in there. If theres a resinator looking thing where the cat should be it could be a glass pack.

Modest too
Yeah man, you probably have a hole in your exhaust. This happened to my '88 Mazda 323 GTX a couple years ago. Mine was in the muffler so all they did was replace that, hopefully that's where yours is so you don't have to replace your entire exhaust system.

someone tell me if a stock 98 ex exhaust is suppose to make noise at around 3K? And does a hole in the exhaust affects MPG?

I think it is hard to answer that without actually hearing how loud yours is but I had an exhaust leak and it makes the car sound sputtery stock exhaust or not. When you pass by medians/curbs you can hear it real well. Stock exhaust makes such a quiet sound unless there is an exhaust leak then it sounds like you have aftermarket exhaust with the sputters! I don't miss that stock exhaust! lol AND yes exhaust leaks would effect mpg!!
