Default Failed Cali Emissions

Yes I didn't feel like searching thoroughly because I'm a lazy fella. Anyway I went to smog my 94 GSR today and I failed. Here are the results.

15 MPH: HC = Max: 90 Meas: 55, CO= Max: 0.54 Meas: 0.01 NOx= Max: 711 Meas: 1127 (epic fail)

25 MPH: HC = Max: 56 Meas: 43, CO= Max: 0.53 Meas: 0.01, NOx= Max 754 Meas: 450

I recently got a tune up with NGK platinums, new denso o2 sensor, and oil change. I personally think the cat is still good. Before I smogged it, I ran the car pretty hard. However, as soon as I got back to the smog center, they made it sit for close to an hour before testing it.

Also, another reason I failed was because "PCV Hose disconnected off block." Would this also cause the high NOx?

So what the hell does PCV hose disconnected off the block mean?

It means you probably have a breather filter on your valve cover...like so:

Nah, I have it hooked onto the intake on a separate hose.

Timing was at 16degrees also. I heard mix things about reducing NOx like getting the car to operating temp ONLY and not warming the cat up like people usually do to reduce HC.

Get a Vtec Controller and run it lean and Vtec at 7k. Got my teggy to run like a SOHC yo! Or do as I used to do and find a grimyest friend and ask if they got the hook up.

Wouldn't running it lean CAUSE NOx to go up even more?"

dont listen to these guys... there is a little pink plastic connector on the back of the block beneath the intake manifold, there should be a hose coming off it to the manifold. reconnect it. make sure you go to a smog place when its not busy so you can just leave it running nice and hot ready fro the test.

I was reading in another thread and someone said to get the car ONLY to operating temp. (Not overheating the cat) It's supposed to keep the NOx low, however the HC might go up.

What do you guys think?

lower your timing to 14 and that should help. if you have a cai try running no filter if they dont notice it should get better.

I'll be in the mid-west by summer. Hopefully Texas's smog law isn't as harsh as cali's.
