Default Overheating issues. Hondata s300

Greetings, im at a loss here and i need some input. I have a turbo gsr and am using an obd1 ecu w/ hondata s300. Today i was driving and the CEL came on (I have been running this set up for about a year and a half and this is the first time). Turned out to be an overheat code, and the ECT was about 220*F. Now i was kind of lost because the temp gauge on the cluster was sitting in its normal place and the car drove fine. I flushed the coolant as my first step but it hasnt helped. I understand that i could have either a bad ECT sensor, bad thermostat and or :-( a bad headgasket. The odd thing is that the rad. fan is extremely spiratic. hondata will say that the car is at 200 and it the fan will be off...204..then maybe on for a little, then back of....215..off....216...on...220....off...220....o n. I dont really know why this is happening. As of now i think replacing the thermostat and ECT sensor or switch is going to be my first to, but if anyone has any ideas..PLEASE let me know!!

Another bit i forgot to add. Just cruising around town it would read in the 216-220 range, but even with the AC on (i am in texas) boosting 17psi full speed ahead it never goes over 220.

I would start with a ECT and thermostat... They arent to expensive and it couldnt hurt for a new thermostat

Mine was doing the same thing(stock Y8) It would drive perfect, but say it was overheating. The fan was sporadic just like yours except mine would go from overheating on the guage to normal pp temp in an instant. I replaced the T-stat and it was fine for 2 weeks then it started. A guy at Honda said to try unplugging the temp sending unit from the T-stat housing and plugging it back up, I guess thats a common problem I tried that and it didnt seem to do anything, but I did it one more time and left it unplugged for a while and it hasnt said it was overheating since. Try to unplug yours and clean the terminals off really good. It will rule that out if nothing else.

Not sure on that one but you count give the dealers a call or go on Hondaautomotiveparts.com and check the numbers.

Did you figure anything out?
