Default quick ? do you need to take out motor for new pistons/rods install

just wanted to know if it was necessary to remove engine to put in pistons and rods. would you just drop the oil pan and take off the head. or would the enigne require to be out for this job.

if they are OEM cast replacment pistons going into the same size bore you might get away with just doing it like you mentioned.

if they are forged aftermarket pistons you need to bore/hone the cylinders to get the proper piston to wall clearances so the block has to come out.

It depends on the condition of the bore. If the cylinders need to be bored and honed or deck straightened then the blocks got to come out.

im planning to put pr3's on the stock ls rods into a b18b1. trying to build a non-vtec ls motor. is there anything needed to be done to the block or could these slide right inplace of the old ones. i thought they would go in without any modification.

the motor has about 95k on it. trying to do a decent build but trying to keep everything under 2500 with install. plans are. stage two cams, camgears, valvetrain/retainers, pr3's on ls rods, tuning, i/h/e blah blah blah.

i know i could get a used gsr swap for this price..i know. but i already have most the parts.

but in all reality since im doing this i should do it right. could someone please explain to me exactly what is honing and bore. sorry im new.
