Default i need help on my stock struts !!! help please !

ok so i have this problem, im putting coilover springs on my stock struts & i was wondering if i still needed that sheild that is covering a bolt i need to get too . i know its better off getting new struts but i dont have the money at the moment so im just sticking w. the stock ones & new lowering springs . so, i try to loosen the top bolt so the hole top can just pop off but when i loosen it, the hole strut goes with it . & i tried to loosen another strut but it does the same . so if anybody knows how i can get the stupid old spring off to put my new one, let me know ASAP thnxxxx !

What you have to do is use a hex key in the very top of the strut and a wrench for the bolt, but before you do that go to autozone and rent a spring compressor, because your gonna need it, any more questions hit me up, I've just finished my rears and still gotta do the fronts, your installing coilovers, or lowering springs? Gl with the install.

Use the hex key to hold the bolt thing in place while you loosen the nut with a wrench or something. Be sure to use a spring compressor or the spring will fly in your face lol. Oh and I don't think you need the shield thing, it's just a dust cover isn't it?

All the way at the top there is a slot for the hex key. Stick it in there and hold tightly. Below that theres the nut that holds the top cap. Use a wrench to loosen the nut while holding the hex key in place so the whole thing doesn't move.

Your hex key looks like an "L" correct? Now stick the short leg of the hex key into the hex hole on the strut, lay the strut flat on a concrete surface with one foot on top of the strut/spring assembly. Now grab your wrench and start loosening that bolt as the hex key is being held back by the concrete floor. Comprende?

Well you could put the struts on the car and have someone with an impact try to loosen them up,or take them somewhere and have a shop put them in an actual spring compressor. that's what I had to do for the rears, now the backs are gonna be a bit tough, the bolts under the car tend to seize, they're famous for that.

Very nice man, did you do everything yourself? And did the link I sent you help any? As far as the rear ones go its not that they're hard to do but the bolts under the car always seem to not want to come out so you really have to get an impact on them because a ratchet won't do it sometimes, almost like they're kinda welded on but they're not, so did the fronts go smooth, I may do mine this weekend, hit me if you need anymore help, also how's your ride is it stiff any? Lemme know how everything goes.

you dont HAVE to get rid of the sheilds..

you dont need a spring compressor either, i just shoot it into a trashcan.

Also they say to cut the bump stops in half for that extra inch of clearance. At least my ground control instructions said to.

yuep my old DC i cut the bump stops in half cuz you just crush them haha. my friend didnt do it and they were goneeeeee.

and shooting it into a trash can saves me the time to go to the dept. store and renting out sleeves. nothing wrong with shooting them somewhere. maybe in your face!

jk :]
