RSX oil filter on a B-Series ---> Results
Well I read on http://www.inlinefour.com that using an RSX oil filter on a B-Series motor would raise oil pressure and be better for VTEC.
Here is what they said:
"TIP: If you want a bit more oil pressure, you can use the RSX/01Civic filters on your B-series engine. We've noticed an increase in oil pressure and less fluctuation during VTEC operation."
After searching Honda-Tech I read numerous different post (good & bad) I found that there was a mixed opinion and no one seemed to really know if using the RSX oil fiter was better or not and if it did make a difference during VTEC.
I read increased oil pressure would make VTEC a little louder and crisp sounding and some said it would increase oil pressure way TOO much.
Well here are the results: (according to my Autometer Electric Oil Pressure Gauge on my LS/VTEC). The difference between the 2 filters are B-Series shorter and wider, K-Series longer and thinner.
Purolator PureOne B-Series Oil Filter:
Idle 25lbs
5700 (VTEC engages on my car) 77.5lbs
Purolator PureOne K-Series Oil Filter:
Idle 25lbs
5700 77.5lbs
I have not noticed any changes in oil pressure yet. VTEC still sounds the same.
So for those of you who have been wondering about doing this, or wondering about the results. Here you go. Nothing major.

The sound of the engine when in VTEC has everything to do with the size of the cam lobe (all else being equal, except for oil pressure in this case). Changing the oil pressure will not affect the size of the cam lobe, so therefore can have no effect on the sound. VTEC is either on or off, as long as there's suitable pressure in the first place you should have no issue.
...and I was under the impression that Honda now uses the same part number for all the B/D/K/F/etc series filters.

I personally didn't say oil pressure was going to change the sound of VTEC. That is just something I read on here. Ya pretty stupid. I personally just wanted to see what the difference in oil pressures would be.
Also, yes Honda uses the same part number for all motors. That is the debate if you search. There are so many different opinions as to which is the best filter to use.

I just use the Purolator Pure One for its filtering capabilities. And its cheaper than Mobil1 which if I remember correctly, Purolator makes Mobil1 filters. (*don't quote me on this. Its been a while since I researched that).

I will say one thing.... Pressure equals restriction and restriction equals pressure
Think about it.....
Theres NO way an oil filter is going to increase your oil pressure UNLESS it is seriously restricting your oil flow causing a rise in pressure, of course this would be a bad thing!

Depends on where you're reading the pressure from. Upstream pressure is bad. The OEM pressure port is downstream of the oil filter.

I use the fram part #7317 oil filter. Never had any problems. The part numbers for an rsx/civic. I just use it because its the same size as the oem honda/acura filter.
Fram filters are the same as oem honda filters.....made by the Honeywell Group. Dont believe me, just look for the fine lettering on the box.
I had read the same thing about using an S2K filter on a B series, I came up with identical results between a B series filter and a F series, didn'tsee any rise in oil pressure.
Where's the proof that Fram filters are bad for your motor?
I have no physical evidence but I've been using it for several yrs and no problems

Lol fram is one of the top oil filter manufacturers and has been forever.
Never heard of putting a rsx filter on but I have heard of a s2000 filter raising oil psi. Never did it personally tho.

This is so true.. Last time I bought a honda oem filter something xxxpr3xxx filter it was made by fram. After that I went with fram at every oil changes. Not worth paying $8-$10 for a jdm yo hamp filter.

pretty much all honda/acura engines use the 15400-plm-a02 or a01. (including b's and k's)
the a02 is the smaller honeywell, and the a01 which is the older model filter is a filtech.(larger)
Nsxs, and like older lengends/rls are the pretty much the only vehicles that use the even larger 15400-pl2-505 oh and s2000's use some bigger one too

Dude if fram is a shitty filter then that makes honda a shitty filter too. Go buy a oem honda filter and I can bet you anything that it will say honeywell made in canada on the filter. That my friend is fram...
Dude, all im saying is, i dont trust filters that use cardboard endcaps, ive seen the disaster they have caused previously, purolator is the best brand filter on the market and i dont mind paying a dollar more for a pure one when i know the quality.
At least someone here knows what i'm talking about just do a google search for fram and find some more results! Just cause honda uses them doesnt mean there good, Maybe there cheap! I have worked and owned many different cars and trucks and fram is a big NO NO! Dont listen to me do a web search and find out for yourself! If you want to use fram please feel free to buy a piece of junk. Your call!
