GOT RIPPED OFF!!
i actually do have a question but i need to explain first.
two days ago i traded an EK for a 94 GSR teg but the ecu in the car was for a non vtec motor so that is garbage now. i was telling myself to buy the P72 ecu because it has the IAB and Knock senor compatibility.
i was looking around craigslist.com and found a guy selling a bunch of electronics for tegs and civics and he said "no bro you need a p28". i bought the damn thing for $100. it looks brand new i mean in very good shape but after doing some research, i see that this does NOT support IAB or Knock.
im not a street racer and dont really care if i have the crazy *** vtec high speed blah blah blah, BUT the ecu i had was for an automatic 92-95 single cam non-vtec. with that being said, my RPM's were fluctuating and would sometimes die out when i pop it out of gear and press the brake (the rpm gauge would go to zero instantly and die out going about 50mph).
bottom line is this, will i have an at least "decent" running GSR? i know i can get the p28 chipped but im not experienced with that. or should i try to sell this and pick up a p72?
also the guy i bought the ecu from told me that you can infact hook up the knock and IAB to the p28 to get everything working correctly.
any help would be appreciated!!

The P28 will work, as long as it's chipped and modified for MT. Since you have no experience and seems like your the the type of person who wouldn't be interested in learning, just get a P72 and sell your P28 to me for 10 bucks.

Dude, there ya go! Even better! I ran my 98 GSR motor on a chipped p28 auto (converted) ECU. Just get it chipped and run a GSR basemap (for now) using CROME or UBER (freeware). In the future if you do decide to add on performance parts to your motor, you can always have it tuned/retuned.

while im still not entirely comfortable with the situation, hondata has ecu's listed based on desirability, or i guess whats most commonly used or "best". for the 94-97 b18c1, which i am running, it shows p72/p28.
so i guess i should be fine with this for now, and i'de like to chip it eventually

if you keep running a P28 without a chip and basemap you will ruin your motor fast. end of story. Get it chipped or get the right ECU hondata lists that because you can put a hondata in a p28 and run a gsr perfectly but the stock p28 is garbage in a DOHC espicially if your running the stock GSR intake manifold. Dont ruin your car over something so easy to fix

Hondata is fine, but more money you'd have to fork out to get the hondata unit. Just get your p28 socketed and you can easily obtain a chip with a GSR basemap if you really looked. PM me if you want.
If you're planning on running the stock p28 on your GSR motor, I wouldn't recommend it. Do it right and you wont have any problems in the future.

ok, thanx. i talked to the guy i got the teg for. he said he has an ls/vtec (thats the swap thats in the teg) chip that was custom programmed. he will sell it to me for $70 AND de-solder and re-solder the ecu.
unfortunately i can only take his word on the chip. it could be blank for all i know. cant read it until its soldered on.
anyone ever have a leaky fuel filter on a gsr before? mine is leaking i BELIEVE from the fitting (directly on top of the filter). i think this line runs back to the tank? let me know if im wrong, also the fuel rail line is tight.

update: plugged in the p28 and man its a difference like night and day.
the car idles at 1000rpm now, doesnt fluctuate while driving (does in the morning tho) and the vtec hits like a son of a bitch.
vtec engages at what i think is either 5000-5500rpm. with my stage 2 clutch and Fidanza flywheel im hittin 85-90 in 3rd and still going, i havent been able to get into 4th gear yeat while driving agressive. economically yes haha

Honestly you shouldn't be tazzing on the car right now, considering the ECU thinks it's fueling a 1.6 single cam.
