Building a B18c1 GSR: need some opinions. BC3+, Hytech Replica, Spoon HG, Skunk2
I'm going to be building up my friends B18c1 GSR engine.
Here is the plan:
B18c1
Spoon 2 Layer HG
Buddy Club Spec 3 Camshafts
Supertech or Buddy Club Valve Springs (which ones does everyone recommend?)
Hytech Replica Header
AEM SRI with BPi Velocity Stack & K&N Filter
Skunk2 Pro Series Intake Manifold
JDM ITR Throttle Body
Hondata IM Gasket
Hondata S200
Do I need adjustable cam gears?
Do I need to upgrade to some 310 injectors?
Do I need more compression or should I be fine with what I got? I was thinking of getting high compression valves and of course getting the head decked.
** The goal: 180-190 whp **

I'll start by saying that I'm no expert, and don't have any experience with these cams yet...
With that said, I'm building a very similar setup with only a few little differences(68mm throttle body, stock headgasket).
-From my readings online, cam gears are almost a necessity with these cams. People seem to have some trouble getting them dialed in just right, and with stock gears you're limited to skipping a whole tooth on the belt, which is a huge change.
-I'm going to be running stock injectors at first, and from what I've read and heard, they should be good to about 190hp.
-A little bump in compression never hurts with "bigger" cams, but the BC3+ have been proven to have decent gains on stock compression. If you're pulling the head off in the first place, there isn't any reason not to throw some flat faced valves in while you're at it.

I am currently using the BC3+'s in a B16a2 and also am not an expert, but I'll say I'm one of those people that does alot of research before buying something, because, honestly, I'm a tightwad and don't like doing stuff twice. First off, tuned correctly, they are awesome cams. When properly tuned, my tuner achieved 170 whp. I know is not a B18, but the cam characteristics won't change. This was the first build, and the power curve, or line in this case was almost flat as a board up to the power drop-off point. Now power drops off about 8500 RPM, so if you're wanting to rev to 9 or 10 grand, not the best choice. I was advised I needed to upgrade my injectors, over the phone, not in the guys shop where he could sell them to me, and am using RC 310cc injectors. Everything I read said that they (the cams) like higher compression also. I'm right about 11:1, but I know alot of people run much higher with these cams. I think Renoracing is right on the cam gears, I got 7whp after cam gears were adjusted, and they also seemed to be a requirement on everything else I read, too. I know I'm rambling on, so weed out the info. you don't need. Hope this helps. Please post on how you guys like that Hytech replica. Oh, yeah, make sure you use an allignment gauge when putting the motor together. The second time I got it tuned after having to rebuild the motor, the tuner said he had to tune a little more conservatively, because we set TDC with the motor in the car and, though it looked TDC, the cams were a retarded by at least a degree or more since the head was milled .001 and he didn't know where true TDC was.
Sounds good. Thanks for your input.
I'm also looking at those cams for my ls/vtec. I am running CTR/ITR Cams and I put down 187whp. I'm not sure my friend is going to choose these cams. I think he is just going to go with ITR's.
I've read nothing but great things about the Hytech Replica Header. I will also be switching to the hytech replica on my ls/vtec since I am using a DC 4-1.

buy bc3's and sell him your ITRs?

bc5's are dont work that well in small motors..
the bc3's are a great cam for a mild 1.8liter.
yes you need cam gears, no you dont need 310cc injectors

year s ago we already tried bc3+ against blox ,skunk and jun

That's is what I was thinking, but if I do that, then I wanna get the Hytech Replica, and then I'll need cam gears and get the it re-tuned. I just don't have the money to do that right now.

didn t get to go against bc4 s
but against jun3 toda c
by the way if u search most of those graphs r on here
and i also have a 220whp 1.8 graph on here too........

Ok, so you mean in a comparison test the bc3 did well against some other cam manufacturers.

we have tested bc3's and bc5's on 1.8 liter motors... with out a ton of compression the bc5's lost so much inthe midrange it wasnt funny.
and in all honesty you can make 180-190 on ITR cams.
we will be doing a cam test on a 1.8liter later this week, its a gsr with p30 pistons and otherwise mostly stock.. stock intake manifold, a stock CTR header, full ac/ps etc.. i made 180 the other day with the bc3's
we will be making a post!

the people that use bc3+'s actually know how good they really are. the average power of these cams is better than most

i currently have a stock bottom b18c1 with a 00 b16 head milled about .010 to bring the compression back to stock. with bc3+ -- made 175whp and 135wtq
car runs great.. power drops at about 8000. with more compression it should be able to rev just a little bit higher. but if you're gonna do more compression might as well get more aggressive cams.
btw.. these cams are great for dd
