Ctr and Itr cams questions.
Alright my friend wants to go with either ctr or itr camshafts and he wants to know if he would need to upgrade the valves and springs??? Cuz i know the ctr and itr are for more compression builds.. He has a b16a block and head. He's gonna redo the short block to pretty much a ctr with the crank rods and piston, and then for the head he wants to know if he would need to upgrade with those cams.
You dont have to run upgraded valvetrain, but its recommended to do so. CTR's intake cam is slightly more aggressive then the ITR, the exhaust cams are the same.

According to Rocket,

The max cam lift you can use on B16 springs would be a cam with 10.7mm lift, since ITR cams have 11.5mm lift, I wouldn't run them w/ stock B16 springs

x2, i wouldn't bother throwing in those cams without their valvetrain, thats like running pro2's on itr valvetrain

alright thanks for the info guy will tell him and pretty much tell him its a no go unless he does a upgrade on the head!
Sorry to thread jack, but is it also the same for gsr engines? I'm looking to upgrade the cams to ctr cams. Would I also have to upgrade the valve train to ctr also?
You will more than likely be ok to the stock B16 redline. Like stated above the exhaust cam is now different unless its an automatic jdm b16.
Did you say B16A block with B16B internals?
Advise him to stick with the stock pistons or P30 pistons if he insists on changing them. the CTR will be a headache for you guys and there are no benefits.

no your stock gsr valvetrain will be fine as long as you keep your rev limit within the gsr peak...i have 01 Itr cams on my stock internal gsr head and i cut off at 8200....
Answer these questions and you will know what to do.
1. Did honda use different vt setups for b16a, b18c1, b18c5 ?
2. If they thought is was safe to mix vt and cams why didnt they just use the same vt on all heads?

Valvetrain is dictated by cam selection which is dictated by desired powerband to maximize efficiency and meet emmissions standards.

they used different vt for different purposese..yet they are all interchangeable...many people have put itr or ctr cams on b16 or b18c1 heads and have not had any problem...adjust your valves get a good ecu for your setup and a good tune...solves the problem....

if your that scared to put itr or ctr cams on ur Si or Gsr head then i suggest you keep it stock
