Alternator
Car died on me and such, took it to pepboys.
They did diagnostic and told me that the alternator is not charging the battery like it should be and needs to be replaced.
Asked them how much it would run me and quoted me ~$480 for part and ~$200 for labor.
What are my options?
Should I look for a used alternator or am I sol?

they priced a bit high for a new alternator. you can get a brand new oem one for about $250 online and about $350 from a honda dealer. http://www.HondaAutomotiveParts.com
so i would order one online then install it yourself or take it to a mechanic that you trust and have them put it on.

Alternators are not all that complicated and any generator/alternator shop can do it for that. I just got quoted $120 for a rebuild of mine that supposedly has a bad stator and rotor...

IF all ya are cheap like me, spend less for good parts. Rebuilt yourself. All it really need is 2 $4.00 worth Bushing Rod and solder is yourself. I don't it many times.
This is the fix if the 2 rotor rods are worned.

Or you can go to something like an auto zone. Pick up one of their cheap altentors for 80 bucks. But their altenators are warrentied for life. So free alts as long as you have the car.
I've had the autozone alternators before, and after 2 months and 4 alternators later they finally gave me one that worked correctly. I would totally go to a rebuild shop from now on. Another solution could be to get a used alternator from a salvage place you trust if you have no money. Got one used from Honda Parts Unlimited on ebay for my civic for $40 and 2 years later it still is going strong.
