is it hard to install your own car alarm???
is it hard to install your own car alarm, i got one but i'm thyinkin about payin for it to be installed right unless its not that har,d i'm pretty good with wiring **** but i need to know if its to advanced for me, let me kow
I am ALMOST done my alarm and it has taken forever to get it the way I want (and this is so far with one mistake)
The installation of the alarm is extremely important as it can make or break your security system. I personally think you should get it pro installed, however, make sure you do your homework on the installer!
A good installer should explain everything to you BEFORE he starts, you should discuss with him the location and mounting point of the brain, valet switches, kill skitch for the fuel pump (yes .. do it, even if you only use it when your in a paranoid area) as well as sensors.
You should decide from now If you'd like to add some things to your brain that did not come with it, such as a window rull up/down module, proximity sensors, tilt sensor or hood locks (do the hoodlock..)
You DO NOT want your alarm brain under the dash, or in the driver kick panel , and this is EXACTLY where the installer will try to put it. You also do not want your valet anywhere near that location.
I'm a firm beliver in the fact that if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself because only you care enough to put in the time and tears. However, it is a lot of time, and trust a lot of tears so thats why I say go pro.
Many wires need to be tapped, and ran in a way that looks very stock and not noticible, expect to not have your car done in a day...mine has personally taken forever.
Spend more money on a good install, than the alarm and you can still have a kickass layered setup. Get a good/great alarm and still spend lots on the install and you'll have the convienece and protection you need.
Cliffs: Buy a hoodlock ($20) , Install a fuel pump kill switch, even if your only going to interupt the circuit when your in an area that you think is *bad*. Pay the pros, but make sure they ARE pro (soldered connections for the money too!)

The most Important Part of a security system is the Installation . I have seen hack jobs done by Saloon shops and by Mass Merchants, just as well as quality jobs. It all lies in the hands of the installer...he is as only good as he was taught as what his work ethic is. Talking to the installer may help...but They are unique creature ( dont flame I have been installing for over 10+ years) some have the "communication thing " down to a science while others will run and dive under a dash when asked a question. My best advice is that you ask that a TROJAN be installed. TROJAN is what I call a decoy..its an old crappy alarm that finds it way to the trash can after being pulled from a car..and its mounted in the most obvious places. Its there to delay the theif and buy you time...its his worst enemy. Your cost...offer to buy the shop lunch...$20-30 buck on pizza and pop..its worth the expense.
