'97 clutch question very serious !!!
Hey Honda-Tech, i was wondering if you guys can help me with this problem. For some reason I start the car, but it would let me shift to any of my gears. So i turn off the engine, and see if im able to shift still and it turns out that i can still shift. But i can only shift when the engine is off. Also it sounds like when i try to force the clutch to 1st gear it seems like it makes the engine die. So i start the engine again and it still wouldnt let me shift. Do you think any of you guys can help me out? Think there's something wrong with the clutch?
When u start the engine and put your shifter into nuetral, does it vibrate rough engine noise? If it is them, possible problem could be needed to bleed clutch fluid, somehow the release bearing not releasing the pressure plate all the way from the clutch so it is still putting pressure against the clutch disc.
With this being said, engine off, engine not rotating so you could shift but when engine spins, it grabs the clutch and spins the trany shaft so if not totaling nuetral, you will have hard time switching gear.

when engine is on, you're in nuetral, then everything sounds and feels normal but U cannot shift into gear because its kinda hard even though you press the clutch pedal all the way down. THis problem happens when the pressure plate not release all the way so that the clutch disc is free from the engine. Not Rotate anymore.
Possible problem, The clutch fluid needs to be bleed so the pressure of the slave cylinder is strong enough to press the pressure plate to move further back, releasing the clutch disc.
Drain Tranny fluid if U haven't done so.
Lastly, put you shift into gear and then on your engine then clutch it and try to pull out of gear if it still hard to do so.
Let me know.

you can try adjusting your clutch pedal underneath your dash at the petal, and if your clutch has alot of miles chances are that your clutch might be shot, my car wouldnt go into gear and come to find out the springs in my clutch were shot.

look at the slave cylinder and check to see if the plunger has sufficient travel. (couple cm) If it doesn't move, then you have air or a leak in the system somewhere. If it does move, then your clutch is failing.
