Default itr oil cooler

bought a itr motor with a spun rod bearing. right now im in the process of rebuilding the bottom end with forged internals. when i took the pan off there was quite a bit of very fine shavings. i know i have to replace the oil pump as thats just a given but what about the oil cooler on the backside of the block??? just got off the phone with the acura dealership an the oil cooler is 779 bones
why the heck is it so expensive???

Flush the cooler out, there is no reason to replace it unless it failed internally.

Im not sure as far as order of oil travel goes but id **** can the cooler (some refer to it as an oil warmer). No sense in taking the risk of particles/shavings being trapped inside. Your motor can live without it. You can also buy one from someone who has removed their's. I took them off of every motor i had and ran an external air to oil cooler.

edit: Actually, if im picturing it in my head correctly, the oil woulkd pass thru the cooler first.

Cooler first then through the filter element.
