I'll have to assume it was installed and the ceramic broke after it had been driven for a while?

You must have cracked the ceramic when you or whoever installed it. Make sure you don't side load the socket or get to ruff trying to remove the scoket from the plug.

What have done is, install the plug with one spark plug socket that has a rubber installed to hold the plug, after the threads are started, I remove that socket and use a normal 5/8 deep socket to tighten the plug.

Then I got smart and I welded the spark plug socket to a 6" extension so the plug socket can't remain on the plug after you install it.

I broke a plug years ago trying to get the socket off.

ok cool, so if that's the jist of it, im overthinking by assuming this has something to do with a malfunctioning sum else??? like bad head/block ect...??? because when I replaced the plug my car ran fine, now it seems about 2 das later my cars boggin real bad again... wtf!!!!!!!!!

so i replace the seemingly fouled plug with yet ANOTHER older plug "from my single cam vtec" and now the car runs fine again... wtf would make it surge through spark plugs like amsterdam does condoms....

If the problem comes back, you need to give more info on the engine and set up.

You say you put a old plug from a single cam... in. What engine do you have now?

Do you have the correct heat range plugs?

You said fouled?

nothin like jinxing myself, problems back... the car is 110% stock 92 dx hatch... d15b7 all stock with 127k miles... and my old motor wa a jdm d15b, which I have a couple spare parts from still... the plugs I bought were ZFR5J-11 "what the timing cover calls for" so I swapped in a ZFR6J into the cylinder that had the busted plug an walahhh it worked fine for hours, than sure enough last night it took a **** on me... swapped in ANOTHER old plug, works fine now... so I wouldn't doubt on the way home from work today that plug takes a **** as well... so what ya thinkin..???

Do the plugs actually look bad when you take them out? Or are they still pretty clean?

First id check the plug wire and make sure its not damaged, then the cap and rotor on the dizzy to make sure that terminal isnt ground down to nothing.

ok so i swapped the the first 2 injectors and put everything back together... just for ***** i figured lemme check the rest of the spark plugs also... so when i check the first 3, they come out fine, all look decent "considering they're BRAND NEW", but when i get to the last spark plug i put in the plug socket and go to attatch and it doesnt seat on the plug, so im like wtf while trying to maneuver the socket the lock onto the plug but no luck... well when i look down in the hole, it was very suprising... if ur lookin down into the cylinder u normall well see the sides of the 5/8" diameter around the spark plug, well my spark plug looks like its rounded off completely...!!! it almost seems as if the plug got sucked in the block or into some sorta rubber grommet and then im like FAWKKK it was the rubber seal that goes inside the spark plug socket, it had gotten stuck on there when i put the plugs in and i didnt realize it because that was the last plug i put in so after i used the socket i just put it back in my socket drawer... Well i get the tip of the socket like steaming hot and i used some force to melt an impression over the rubber grommet to form the 5/8 diameter and i got it finally.. so im trying to loosen the plug and its like crazy tight on there, so i gave it some more force with the wrench an it like popped free.. well im tryin to dethread and its doin nothing but spin... so i pull out on the socket and look whats in my damn face... THE [freak]IN PLUG BROKE INSIDE THE HEAD..!!!! Is this just adding insult to injury or what... So now what, do i really have to take off the head or can i dethread that with a tap set or something..???

plugs look good, just pretty used for only bein 2 weeks old... cap, rotor, dizzy, wires, fuel filter, an plugs are all new "2 weeks old" dizzy was replaced with a friend whos was in perfect workin condition and the problem persisted so i've ruled out all of those as suspects... i just dont understand what would make this happen..??? block issue..?? head issue..??

Never seen a plug do that.

How tight are you putting them in ? you only go a little bite have they make contact. read the directions on the box

You might get lucky with a ezy-out. But I'm thinking your going to be pulling the head.

What kind of plug socket were you using ?

I use craftsman tools.

Timesert makes a kit specifically for this instance and its designed to reach down into the cylinder of the plug.

wow ive never seen that happen before!
i think youll be pulling the head off for sure... if you easy out it theres still a high posiblitly that shavings are in the cylinder. definatly not good if draged along the cylinder walls or slides between piston rings!
i would definatly pull the head. and also try geting some better spark plugs.... ive never seen some snap like that!
the threads must have seized! did you put antiseize on the threads last time you instaled them? if not that may be why they seized up and are stuck right now.

Nope I sure didnt put anti-seize

And they're the same NGK's i've been using for years and years with no problems... Also, this is the first time i've ever had this happen, it's almost as if it were overtightened or something but that's impossible cuz I always just put my plugs hand tight and leave it at that... I'm just stumped as to why the [freak] they became so tightly grounded in there... Looks like the heads comin off, kinda sucks tho that this motors 100% stock tho cuz the exhaust manifold has about 20 different brackets mounted to it.... W/e...

o ya. the threads definatly seized then. hopefully you can get the sprark plug threads out after removing the head... if you have acess to a welder i would try to weld a bolt onto the tip of the spark plug and see if you cannt just use the bolt as a head to unscrew the thing..... tho im not sure what the tip of a spark plug is made out of... it might not work.

otherwise it might be a big PITA to remove... good luck!

GOD I LOVE KEEPING BROKEN TOOLS AROUND FOR SITUATIONS LIKE THIS..!!!!

LOL I'm the same way. My dad always wants to throw away my junk, broken tools, parts, etc and I told him to leave everything alone in my shed. Many times I found use for things that were over 7 years old. They get us out of these crazy situations.

You are so lucky to have gotten that out. Now I bet you will never forget anti-sieze again

dam.... you did get lucky.LOL good to hear!!!!!
tho i would sugest geting some new spark plugs. all new IMO...
i never keep spark plugs over 2years max myself, driving or not.

they are made outta glass and glass thats almost constantly being vibrated from the motor and extreme temps. tho ive never had them break like yours. ive only had them break off glass from the insides like a corner geting chunked out....

haha yeah bro luck saved my ***... but dude, i still have that [freak]in hesitation problem... its KILLLLLINNN MEEEEE..!! would maybe a map sensor go bad an not throw a CEL and cause this problem..?? it's usually only when my cars warmed up but i've had it happen while it was cold... its like the worst sputtering ever, but if i floor the gas pedal it like struggles through it and at higher rpm goes away... fuel filter, dizzy, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air fitler, cat. converter, and throttle body have all been checked/replaced....

have you bleed the radiator system? i had a horible idle problem with my old 94civic. also my new 96dx civic had a odd idle when warmed up after i replaced the radiator.... i just bleed the system by simply puting the front end up tilted up pretty good take the radiator cap off WHEN COLD of course... then start the motor up and let it idle for awhile to let the thermostat open up a few times while keep toping off the radiator fluid to get all the little bubbles outta the system. now on my 96dx it worked perfectly! idles smooth now. and tho it didnt get rid of my 94exs cold warm up idle but it did help it alittle so it didnt do it as bad.

hmmm good idea man... ima wait til the sun settles a little "its ***** hot out right now" and than give it a shot... i suppose that could make the problem only randomly happen... would that cause hesitations while driving too ya think..??

well i tried the radiator trick and still no luck... actually there wasnt much air in there at all..?? i kinda get the smell of gasoline when my hoods popped too, but i cant pinpoint where it would be comin from... i changed out the injectors the other day but i cleaned up what little gas sprayed out of the fuel rail so i dont think i should be smelling gas still.... i'm ready to just rip this motor out already.... i've never had a problem i couldnt fix or at least find what it was, this sucks...
