axle swap do i need new fluid?
really if u hadnt change it in awhile just change it out. 2.5 qts of oem mtf or some syncromesh. cause i have an itr tranny i change it every other oil change. just because im paranoid haha.

Friction Modified is where it's at, though.
Luckily I bought the last 6 quarts the local Chevy dealer had in stock. I went 50K miles on my last fill of SM FM, and it still looked good when I drained it out, so these 6 quarts should last me another 75K-100K miles.

Your fluid level was way low then. Unless you jacked up the front right side of the car only. We did that on a friend's Civic one time and were able to keep the fluid from coming out while changing the axle.
