Autopower Roll cage question
i have the 4 point bolt in street cage with harness bar. my question is why do i get a loud POP noise when i push it hard into some turns, usually weird angle turns. i know its bolted in tight i have checked the torque on all the bolts so know im just curious if this is normal?
if its n00b question i apologize in advance

i have had my 4pt for the last 5yrs,and i never came across what your mentioning myself.as stated by Stinkycheezmonky your issue could relate else where. i did get tired of re-torque each bolt and nut as they tend to come loose even when double nutted. so i welded it in. now im in the process of adding a u-weld front half to the exsiting hoop.
To be more helpful, check EVERY bolt/nut in the suspension. Try identifying the general area where its coming from to make that easier. Put a wrench on it, don't just shake it or something. I found just such a problem with one of my rear upper control arms. If that still doesn't fix anything, look for something that might be rubbing/hitting, like your front UCA if you're running the car low.
ok thanks for the input, and no my car has a two finger gap and im running tein ht's.
its just weird cause it sounds like its coming from inside the car not underneath. i will double check all other suspension parts for proper torque

I get the issue of things sounding like there coming from inside as well. the problem is if you have removed seats/sound deadening mechnical noises can echo from inside the car. ( i don't have my sound deadining removed yet but everything else has been removed)
So this issue could very well be binding or loose components on the outside of the vehicle. Do you begin to hear a slight sound and then POP or is it just a quick POP?

If it sounds like its comming from the rear check your trailing arm bushings, alot of them seem to wear out on the older honda's! Honda actually has a bulletin out for them

Very good point Stinky!
Check the front upper shock surface just outside of where the shocks mount in the front.. If your bottoming out you will start to see dents from the front UCA.
Leave no part untouched by a wrench.. also look again at your springs with the load taken off.. they might not be seated.

no i have full rear interior and it definantly comes from the inside. the car DOES NOT bottom out pretty much ever. also it is only in turns not over dips or bumps. no rear swaybar. happened before the rear tie bar was installed, stock LCAs but has newer OEM replacement bushing.
thanks for the quick response!

I dont understand why you would have back seats with a roll bar
What kind of car is this on?
Whats a weird kind of turn to?
I still say to check the rear trailing arm bushings

no one rides in the back of my car. period. i keep for a clean look they have no function.
its an 1996 civic hatchback. its really only on off camber(?) turn and its usually half way through the turn. i will double check the bushing for play.

You have to have an intact interior in many "stock" classes, This is why I still have my rear seat with a rollbar.

sorry i dont have anything that would work like that. i think ill have my friend ride as a passenger and hold the cage to see if it makes any movement.
the best i can describe it is as something building tension then snapping. its a very metallic pop noise. if i cant figure it out ill just unbolt the cage and see if it continues.
thanks again for the help

Well, he was explaining to you why someone might retain their rear interior while running a 4 pt roll bar.

I would almost loosen all the roll bar bolts and re tighten them, That way if it was caught in a bind or something it would re-adjust.
Do you have 2 nuts on each bolt holding it in? Let us know what you find out

That doesnt make any since though. I cant forsee a cage binding in anyway that it would POP in a corner and not UNPOP itself on the exit. I think he is gonna find that this indeed suspension/bushing related.

This is true, but he seem's to think its the roll bar and not suspension related as i think it is. Since HE thinks its the roll bar i was giving him a ideaon what he could do for that
