I understand it's an automatic transmission, with higher and lower gear ratios therefore offering higher mpg, as well as best acceleration at all times. BUT! I haven't actually seen one, and I hear there's a clutch?? It's basically an automatic with a clutch? I'm confused..
Also is there a difference between a Honda HX CVT, and a JDM 3 stage D15B SOHC Multimatic Transmission? I'm also pretty sure the HX CVT bolts right up to any D series engine.

all i know is that my mom's dodge caliber has one and its kinda sluggish and sounds like its slipping. but gas mileage is great...

A CVT works the same way a snowmobile works, actaully it is the same. You have two pullies that slide in and out to give you a certain "gear" ratio. The ratios in these kinds of transmissions is basically limitless. i only wish we could get one that is reliable and can handle alot of power.
