Default 2000 Acura Integra GS-R ::::::: Code 67 - CEL Help

So I jumped from the top left to top right on the cel jumper thing ... pictured below ...

First of all, is this the right way? Jump straight across?

Secondly, if that IS how it's done, I am getting a code 67 ... catalyst system.

Is this just a simple fix of me getting a new cat and having it installed? I am getting a slight bog at 4500 and vtec is kicking in at 5900 now, could this be because of that? Any ideas?

Thanks H-T!!

Yeah, it looks right and the best way to check and see if it is bad, is to take it off and shake it. If you hear rattling usually it is a bad cat if that isnt then you might have a leak somewhere or something..

Take it to the dealer. They will replace a faulty cat for free. Its covered for 12 years, as part of the emissions system.

Besides, it is actually illegal to replace it without paperwork showing that the original cat has gone bad. We do live in Cali, and (sadly) need to keep legality in mind.

I have a 2.5" hi flow cat. I believe it may be the reason I am also getting code 67 (catalyst low efficiency). I think the second O2 is reading that the cat is letting too much exhaust gases pass through (Isn't that the purpose of a hi flow cat?). Either way, if you have the stock cat, it probably has just gone bad.

I just called Acura 101 West in Calabasas ... the service guy said if it's a CA car, it's 8 years or 80k miles ... if it's a car anywhere else in the states it's 4 years or 50k miles.

Oh and by the way, out of curiosity, I asked how much a new cat was ...

[b] $820.00!!! [b]

I laughed HYSTERICALLY and said no thanks hahaha

ok so ... while I had the CEL I noticed something else ...

on a cold engine, started right up

on a warm engine it would have difficulty starting ... i would have to keep cranking and cranking it to get it started and when it finally did start, it was as if it had been on already, no choke.

also, for reference ... it has a brand new igniter and coil.

I reset the codes (pulling battery terminals off for a few) ... starts right up, hot or cold and the CEL hasn't come back yet but I'm sure it will.

Any ideas on that? Thanks

That happened to me as well. It was right around the time my radiator started leaking and the car started drinking more oil than gas. I had the head gasket replaced along with the radiator, but not the cat. It reappeared once when the gas attendant didn't close the cap all the way and it threw a code.

Anyway, my guess is that the cat is covered with burned oil or partially clogged and isn't working effectively, thus throwing the code.

I would think you should be able to replace the cat with a high flow one like carsound/magnaflow as long as you have the oxygen sensor installed properly. It'll be ridiculously cheaper than an OEM cat.

oh yeh its covered with burned oil for sure ... when we put the head gasket on the first time we put it on upside down ... exxon valdez all over the driveway ... that was a bad day to say the least.

no code still ... but it does start wierd from time to time ...

code came back last night. same one ... 67.

so ... whats my best way to fix this? An 02 sensor is gonna run at leeeeast a hundred bucks if thats what it is and the cat is gonna be about the same with installation ... any suggestions on narrowing it down?

Read through this Thread. It has a lot of information on O2 sensors. You can buy NGK/NTK, part no. 24172 or 24169. You can also use that same O2 for the front or rear. People have done it with success. It is about $50 and it is a direct plug in with the clip.

Tell us what you end up doing and what your results are. There are quite a few people with the 67 catalyst code.

wow that was a great write up, thanks!

I'm going to have to think about how to proceed ... cat first? or sensor? If I can find a decent price on a cat I'll just do both at the same time and be done with it
