i have just put a jdm b16a in my 90 teg. i have heard mixed info. should i worry about smog?

 

for what ever reason...if you go to the ref...you wont pass.

 

I could never smog my old 91 crx with JDM b16a it's not legal to have. You have to find someone that will smog your car and look the other way and not notice what motor you have, or have someone "hook you up" with a smog certificate. It's shady but whatre you going to do?

 

is there anything i can do to make my b16a look like a b18a? i'm not near the car right now.. can i put the old valve cover on? do they check vin #'s how stricked are they when checking motors? its completely stock no suspension, wheels, etc..

btw.. does anybody want to buy a 90 teg with b16a?

All you need is money. Just tell them you'll give them extra money if they pass you. Some shops will say no, but most will say ok.

 

either give a smog shop extra $$$ or get it legalized. yes, legalized. it is now legal to have a jdm motor swap in ca if the following reqs. are met:

must have a usdm counterpart
must have matching jdm ecu (and proof on paper)
must be same year or newer
must not mix class, ie truck motor in car and vice versa.
must retain all smog parts of the usdm counterpart

has anybody else heard about getting a b16 legal? where do i start? how much does it cost? the mtr is a jdm 91', i believe the us started with them in 93' in del sol's, any help would be great.

Hey when you go smog do they just stick that thing in the exhaust and take the reading? Or do they check each car part and make sure it has a carb #? Reason I'm asking is because my header doesn't have one.

 

Try to find a shop that goes on numbers only. Visual is such a scam.

 

250 is way too much.. my buddy just had to pay another 20...

 

is that really a law? praise the lord the law is finally changing. ca has some pretty lame laws
