I was told it takes back any unburnt fuel/fuel vapors from the combustion cycle, instead of just dumping it out the exhaust. it keeps your car smoggable.

sounds like they should at least though in some lube before they f#$% you like that

all it does is absorb gas vapors.... you can take it out completely and you car will still run fine

!@##$@#$@ damnit! well i already told them to do it, fing!!!!! i dont think my mom would like the idea of not having the car run "right" =/ well im finally moving out and off to college. do you think i could have done it myself if i bought the parts? id much rather have done it myself.

FYI:im not the rich kid that gets the shops to do everything, ive spent wayyyy too much time and lotsa blood tryin to mod/fix my car.

Ouch!!! $600 huh?

so thats like $480 in labor since the parts like $120? ouch..
I'm not at my car right now.. but from what I can remember (memory).. its just a canistor that has some tubes running in it.. and probably has some brackets or mounts bolted down like the fuel filter.. so install would probably be to maybe purge/relieve pressure from the system (if its under pressure.. not sure), disconnect the lines, unbolt the canister, bolt on the new.. and reconnect the lines...

EDIT: maybe thier replacing that valve too?..

Hahahahaah. You're gettin rammed. I accidently broke mine and i just ripped it out. Yeah you can take it out and the car will run fine. Been doing it for like 4 months. Hmmmm if you spent 70 bucks on a Helms, you coulda saved yourself 600 bucks. Damn.

Acura replaced mine under warranty last summer because I would smell gas after I drove my car for a bit on a hot day. It wasn't a big deal at all and the car has pretty much always done it, but I mentioned it to them and they fixed it. It's now a year and 25k miles later and I'm smelling it again. I get fine gas mileage, so I know my car isn't leaking gas or anything.

My 1973 VW Bug also had a charcoal cannister and the same problem (it was much more noticable though), but it wasn't a big deal either. All the cannister does is absorb the gas smell, afaik. But, my Teg is 24 years newer and made by a different company, so maybe the cannister does more on a Teg. My car runs just fine though.

Shitty for you man. The fuel cap has a back-up vent in case of the that anyway. I wonder why it triggered a code though because I have seen a few people run without one. From what I remember It is just vacuum lines that go to it, you could probably of used one off another car (scrapyard).

no reason its throwing a code, no electrical connected to it.
just to lines from the intake mani, and a open line at the bottom that lets the vapors out, one other that goes under the car somewhere, not sure where ill follow it tonight to see whats up with it.
