Vtec not popping on my GSR swap (P2T ecu)
I recently swapped a GSR into my 2000 ex coupe but vtec is not popping... ran codes and only have a code for the ECT but my temp gauge reads fine... i am using the P2T ecu currently (99-00 SI)... the only re-wiring that had to be done being my car was already vtec was re-wiring the dizzy plugs... when finished there was a tach wire with nowhere to go... need help so any info is appreciated... thanks
there are basically two ECTs, one drives the cluster the other feeds into the ECU.
without that signal to the ECU, no VTEC.
get the right ECU, you can actually control the intake mani butterfly's with the P72.

you don't have to run the secondaries, they are only there for low end torque anyways... no after market mani for the gsr utilizes them... a b16 ecu should still run a gsr motor but it will be slightly detuned... a friend of mine used to have a 2000 hatch with the gsr and a b16a ecu and it ran fine... now granted it did run better once he went with a chipped and tuned p28... but the p2t worked...

THat was about the dumbest comment i ever read on this site.
Its a stock GSR, you NEED them for proper motor operation.
Who told you that you could run it without them? They are sadly mistaken.

THEY ARE FOR LOW END TORQUE...look up what they are for. so yes for proper stock torque they need to be used on a stock mani but it doesn't cause that much of a power loss. again i will restate, there is not a single aftermarket IM that uses the "butterflies" or as they are properly calls the IAB's... further more isn't going to affect vtec operation either... so before you go off saying things are dumb how about you realize that i am not some dumb **** HS kid... was meerely asking for suggestions... not people to talk **** yo... answer this, what pops forst on the stock gsr motor IAB's or vtec? if you know that then i will conceade that you actually know a little something about what you're sayin.

This is Honda-tech, i'd put that comment as one of the more intelligent ones i've heard.

Actually no you don't. They can be left unwired and they'll just stay open and wont cause any problems, this is pretty common actually, a lot of people use chipped P28s to run B18C1s and they don't have the circuitry to control the IABs. That said i'd suggest getting a P72 to run the engine P2T is reasonably close, but obviously its not optimal and its probably running a little on the lean side.

thank you sir for shinning some intelligence on my thread... i know my **** and i didn't wire the swap up nor was i present... and friend of mine did it because i was doing the swap at his house and i think i may have just discovered the problem... ect plug and vtec pressure switch plug were swapped... going to test drive...

Like the other guy said, you don't NEED them at all. Yeah they are there for a reason but you're not damaging anything by having them open all the time.

just an update.... was taking a further look at things and noticed that the ECT plug and pressure switch plug were swapped... my friend wired the motor up while i wasn't there... the p2t still makes the motor pull pretty damn strong, but i will get a p72 or chipped p28 soon... but for now...
