LS/VTEC Popping Exhaust/Bad Acceleration

During idle my exhaust pops and the RPM's vary. When I put my foot down the engine seems like it does not get enough gas and lurches back and forward, and I hear heavier popping from the exhaust like a backfire. This can happen when I am just cruising along as well. It seems to be worse on side streets where I accelerate more.
I'm running 92 octane gas now. Any ideas of where I should start testing?

first off i would check all your plugs. then check your wires (make sure they are all on right) then check timming. it sounds more like timnig than a fuel issuse. how many miles does your build have on it. have you changed the plugs since the build i changed mine out at aorund 200 miles just cause first startup and everything. you dont want to be detinating. do you have a fpr? i have mine set @ like 40-42 psi. but im also runnig 450's. hope this helps

To be honest, I have no idea how many miles are on this engine. I know that is bad. I bought it being told it was a stock Integra LS swap. I don't think it is the timing. It was running fine then all the sudden it just sputtered. I wasn't gunning it or anything. I'll check some stuff tonight. Thanks for the reply

I think I know what the problem is.
When I let the engine idle I hear the popping, and when I rev it, it's pretty much crap. However, when I disconnect the TPS, it runs perfectly. It may suck gas, but there is no popping or rev problems.
Is the TPS my problem? Or when I unplug that do I unplug another sensor?
Also, do I need to replace the entire throttle body or just the sensor? Thanks!

it your car runs better with the tps diconected you must ahve a short or something. because when you unplug it on a good one the idile will jump up and down(surge) and also with it unpluged you should not be able to accelerate with out it not cutting out and popping.lets just say it will not be smooth. test the wires that go to it or ohm out the tps itself. and as far do you need to replce the whole thottle bodie? no you do not just carfully grind/sand down the rivits on the tps and then just grad two screws and put the new one on.

I don't understand. When I unplug mine, it runs pretty much perfectly. I've been driving with it unplugged. When I plug it in it runs like crap. The idle surges, and it pops under acceleration. I thought that when I unplug it the car will run on the default setting.
Where would there be a short? I'll test the sensor sometime this weekend.
