^x2.
The manual says not to do any hard launches, to vary your speed, and not to apply 100% throttle.

You will hear different takes on how to break in your car, but I just stuck with the guidelines stated in the manual.

For the most part, can't go wrong with what Honda says.

Ya, except for their recommended oil change percentage that easily lasts 5000+ miles

Welcome....

what part of Downey are you located??? I'm from there too.

Anyways congrats on your new 08 civic si. Go easy on the throttle for the first 3000 miles ~

Don't mind the oil life indicator, change your oil at every 3k interval but I'll tell you one thing, changin the oil filter is . And if you guys ask around here with FG2 or FA5.... they'll gladly tell you much of a bitch it is to take it off without spilling

said it once....said it a million times.

drive it hard out the box. if the rings don't seat within the first 20 miles then they'll never seat.

what honda recommends is not wrong but it's a just a precaution for the gerneral public that don't know about the internal workings of a motor.

LOL...I totally agree. That particular point, is the reason I put "for the most part..." at the beginning of my last post.

Haha I got my car with 21 miles on it. I'm pretty sure anyone who test drove it romped on it. I get what you mean though.

Part of the package of papers I received with my car was a checklist (it's in a book entitled 'Honda Service History'). It had things for the tech to check before my car was handed over to me. One of the items checked was "check engine performance under all driving conditions". I know my car was beat before I got it...lol. But it doesn't leak/burn a drop.

Changing it at 5000 is just to make sure, anything over that and your running on watery oil.... sooo I would recomend that you change it because the continous beating on the molecules rearanges them and they dont do there job anymore.

actually they know , that whole program of oil life depends on driving conditions , temperatures , so just follow your oil life indicator

I know what you're saying, and I'm not completely disagreeing. I don't want to start an arguement over nothing. BUT, I've gonna 3k HARD miles and had the oil life indicator say 50% during the hottest time of this summer (also took it to the track 3 times) and gone easy for 3k miles (been relatively cool lately with no trips to the track), and the oil life indicator is showing 30%. Something isn't right with that. lol

You keep saying you go 3,000,000 miles between oil changes. That's quite a few miles there...

3 million miles isn't that far fetched haha. It's a Honda therefore it's like the universe, it will go on forever.

DUDE, 3K = 3,000
3M = 3,000,000

Perhaps in some other country the "K" and "M" means something different, but in the US "K" = thousands, "M" = millions.

Just wanted to clearify for you.
