Default Another first turbo manifold maker

hey guys,

Ive been a lurker on here for some time looking at the welding section, let me just say this forum is by far the best place for fabrication input other than the actual welding forums. Now that i have something to post up, i finally made an account.

this is my first ever manifold ive made. Just wanting tips and input on how i can improve from this. I already know some things i need to work on, but i want to see what you all have to say.

thanks, brent

Good job. I've never built one because I haven't wrapped myself around the correct order to weld it together in. Seems to me you can get yourself in a pickle if you don't have the correct welding order.

I'd love to see it done step by step.

thanks,
hehe yea i know what you mean, i tryed thinking this well out before and during the process, but apparently there were some things/steps that could of been done much simpler to make my life easier on the welding part. this manifold took me forever to make, but now that i know whats involved in making it and the steps to do it in, the next one i make will go by much faster and smoother. Honestly i did not have fun making this, only because the learning process is such a pain, but im hoping from here on it will get much more funner.

most welds are underfilled.

X2

I must say, your fitment looks good, but the welds need more filler for sure.

Everything that you need to work on has been mentioned, but I must say that while this is your first manifold, you are by no means an amature with a welder. What do you do for a living, and how long have you been welding?

great looking manifold, I honestly would have backpurged but the manifold will hold up anyway. I haven't built a manifold quite yet but I know over time you'll have an idea of what would work the best for welding all those complicated joints.

Hmm.. well the inside might have not been prepped too well. I would of took a flapper wheel to the inside with a die grinder, good job on your first manifold

thanks guys,

ive been welding for about 3 years. went to welding school for 1 year, then just started welding out in the garage (well i wouldnt say constant welding). I do not have a welding job, not really interested in making welding my profession. currently going to college, sadly im undecided right now, but i have 2 semesters left until deciding.

I bought the piping from acestainless and the flanges from bmcrace. Trying to look for a cheaper price suppler, but these will do for now.

I did backpurge the piping, but some places werent sealed very good, which is one thing i need to figure out on, is how to think smarter on sealing up the pipes.

sometimes its better to make mistakes to learn off of from the beginning, rather than not making a mistake then later find out that you made a mistake and then having to learn off it.

edit: i guess i shouldnt of put make in the title, cause basically all i really did is weld for the most part.
