new honda owner possibly...
First off guys I just wanna say hey and that Im new here, and I just have a couple questions.
I am currently looking into getting a new car possibly. I was totally deadset on getting a type s but just cant seem to find a good one around my area so my boyfriend suggested I look into the newer Si's.
Is there any difference from 06-08 on the Si's?
Is there a good market out there for aftermarket parts?
Do certain years have more problems than the other or any recalls I should know about?
I think thats really it for right now. I own a 02 toyota celica GT right now but its automatic
and I think its time for me to move on and get something a little better and quicker
. Thanks so much guys!!! And if you have any other information feel free to send it my way, Id appreciate it.

For 08, Honda made the trunk actuate with the keyless system only, no key hole in the trunk anymore. I noticed this when I parked next to an identical tw fa5. 08's also get red stitching on the shift boot.
As the more recent renditions of the Si's came out, the infamous 3rd gear issues and rev hang were somewhat fixed. From what I gather from this particular tech forum, these issues were less prevalent than when these chassis were first released in 2006 compared to 2008 models.
I made the transition from toyota to honda recently as well.
Good luck with your decision.

Wait for the 09's if you can, there body kits are sekksss!!!!!
If you plan on getting a Sedan, otherwise theres not much change from 06-8 except minor things like the shift boot and the stuff mentioned before.

I'm not really a fan of the sedans, so no matter what I will be getting the coupe.
As for the third gear issues, I know how to drive standard but I'm sure the car will take some abuse with me trying to get used to driving standard everyday. I wont be beating the hell outta it everyday, but if I choose to get on it every once in a while do you think I will have a problem or should I be ok?

Well I found a couple 08's and two 06's around my area which Im going to be looking at. I will consider the 09's if I dont find one by the time they come out. Thanks for all the information though, I appreciate it.

Let us know the outcome. I'd go with white, but I'm biased.

I did look at a black 08 and the thing was hit. It already gotten into a serious accident and needed alot of repair so I opted to pass on that one. I am going to look at a 08 white one this weekend so we'll see what happens!!

If you can find a new 08', you should be able to get the best possible deal right now. They need to get them off of the lots for the 09s and will do just about anything (within reason) to sell you one. They may not act like it, but they will. The 09s will only have minor changes, so no point in paying extra for it.
Well we're going on Saturday so we'll see what the guy wants to do. You know how dealerships work, they always act like they dont want to help you because they know somebody else will come in and buy the car.
Is there any huge differences between the SI and the EX? The guy called my boyfriend and was bragging about this black EX they have on the lot that I may like. I highly doubt it though, but any input on that model?

huge differences? it depends on how the EX is outfitted, but the main difference no matter what of course is the engine output, handling, and transmission.
you can rest assured that if it's a manual EX you will not have to possibly deal with getting the third gear issue fixed that plagues many 8th gen Si's.
The si will yield the most fun between the two, no doubt. but if you don't like to drive aggressively, the difference will be negligible between the two. the ex will ride better, and use less fuel.
but, as far as these cars in general...
be prepared for paint that is extremely thin and weak, so the lighter the color, the better. chips abound on these things no matter what you think you do to take care of them.
be prepared to rev the snot out of it to really get going. it's a small engine in a sizeable car, and it isn't one with anything to help it get going right away (turbo, blower, cam timing), so be prepared.
hondas in general are no better than anything else out there now.. the EPA (paint), and the bean counters at honda (everything else) have pretty much evened out the playing field...so, keep that in mind when looking at these. the best thing about it is the resale values are still high on hondas, so if you want to get out of it, it'll be relatively easy.

Yea, I really have my mind set on the SI because I am really getting into modifying cars, and I just dont want to waste money on a car that in a year Im going to want to trade in for the SI (that is if I would take the EX). So I will definately go with what I want since I am the one shelling out all the money for it.
