Default I need a DIY on how to cut the rear panel to set up 6x9 speakers on Eg

Hi there guys, this is first thread ever and excuse me if i look like a noobie. I was thinking of setting up a couple of 6x9 in the back of my coupe. unfortunately they wont fit w/out modifications.... I was wondering if anyone by any chance has done this before and could provide me with some pics or whatever help possible. I dont just wanna start cuting stuff and then regret it. My car is like my second penies to me....

Thanks for the help and i hope this works...

Luis

why don't you just get some 6.5" round speakers? they fit perfectly with no mods and they're cheaper than 6x9s anyway, i just don't see the need to reinvent the wheel here.

agreed.
plus a good set of 6.5" speakers can sound better than a set of 6x9's.

perhaps he already has 6x9's for it? I pulled my 6x9's out of my celica, and wasn't about to go buy a brand new pair of speakers when i could spend 30 minutes doing a little customization.

maybe he doesnt have any speakers back there... i'd go with 6x9s any ways... i have a custom rear hatch cover with 6x9's in there and i think it sounds pretty good.

i'd say pull the rear deck out... mark where you want them and figure how much you need to cut to make them fit all the way down...

if the speakers are sticking up at all it gonna kill any bass or mid that the speakers make. it will sound like ****, i promise you this. so just make sure you cut out enough to sink the speakers down. then put the deck back in wire up the speakers and have a and call it a day.

Maybe so, but I can tell you this, if look at a vehicle for sale that someone hacked up to put different sized speakers in it, chances are really good that i'm not gonna buy it. Maybe i'm more **** retentative that way than most people though. My advice to the OP is if you do have 6x9s at least try to trade them for 6.5" before you start cutting.

Sorry but i dont really know much about speakers and whatnot. i bought a set of infinity 6.5" and have em set up in the back (luv them) but the front ones are clarion (i believe stock ones) but they cant handle the power as well as the infinitys. I thought if i put the infinity ones in the front and get some 6x9 for the back it would be fantastic.

So your saying that there isnt much difference between 6.5" and 6x9 then? im not looking for a huge party room inside my car, but just quality sound and some boom boom when crusing

True, then again, i don't plan on selling my car. Besides that, i try to avoid a hack job, (though doing this for my first time I didn't do very well. I learned from my mistake though.

I liked my 6x9s and didn't want to trade them. They sound awesome. But I see what you mean, about if you are going to sell it or something. Then again, unless I'm selling it to a honda fanatic, most people aren't going to know that I had to cut up metal and **** to do so because the 6x9s wouldn't fit.

OP: you have a coupe right? have you considered making a board across the back space where your seats pull down to put the speakers in? I did it for my celica, sounded great. Usually rode with my back seat down, but when i put it up, it was still fine.

From what i've read 6.5" round speakers actually sound a little better than 6x9s, either way i don't think theres going to be much difference sound wise. Price wise there is though. I know a while back when i bought my speakers Pioneer 6.5" round were $70 at canadian tire while equivilant pioneer 6x9s were $100.

My 92 LX didn't have rear speakers at all. I bought 2 pairs of 6.5" Sony Xplods. I thought I was gonna have to do a whole bunch of wiring. The speakers also just happen to come with actual speaker sized stencils which was a HUGE plus! As I was cutting out the holes with a razor, I looked closer and found pre-wired speaker cables tucked between the top of the trunk metal and top of the trunk fabric. Made life so much easier. It would have sucked for me to have to run speaker cable from the trunk to the cd deck. I wasn't exactly in the mood to do that. I have the 4 speakers coupled with a decent Pioneer sub in the trunk. It's plenty for my pleasure.

I do agree though, 6x9s will provide better bass. My 4 sony xplods SUCK ROTTEN DONKEY ***** for ANY type of bass, BUT, they are LOUD and CLEAR as hell. My subwoofer makes up for the bass. Here's a pic of one of them installed. If you can't see the image, let me know.
