Gears Grinding in 5th
Hi, i've actualy just noticed this problem and am not sure if its been like that. While shifting through gears normally, the car shifts fine. But when i shift into 5th gear over 60mph i feel and hear a grinding noise that quickly makes me go back into neutral. Shifting into 5th under 60mph is fine but any higher and it grinds really bad. I have no idea what the problem is and i searched threads to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

mine is the same but if i LET THE rpm drop down low then shift into 5th gear, it goes in fine. I opened the tranny and see that on of the rings that lock 5th gear is a little lose or worned. It's asking for a repair or new tranny....................
isn't that lock out only for the reverse? it should only come into play while you're in reverse, not any of the other forward gears. if it is hard to push in, then it's probably your synchro's going.
