prelude running very rough..after new h22 swap.
ok so I finally got my lude swapped and I am having a problem with the car running pretty rough. The car sounds like it is misfing all through the rpms. Its a 95 h22 with a p13 and 42 lbs of fuel pressure at idle.I got codes 12,17, and 21, nothing that should cause these problems. I have already replaced my whole entire ignition system so now looking into the fuel system. Here are all of my probs
-I have to give the car gas to start or else it pretty much won't start
-Car feels very rough at idle (also using motor mount inserts) it has alot of buzzing vibration. Idle drop very low when I pull to a stop. I adjusted the idle but still nothing.
-you can feel a slight hesitation when trying to climb through the rpm.
-with my 2.5 vibrant exhaust u can hear the misfiring pulse around 3k.
Thanks in advance for any help...My local track is hosting a honda day event next sat. and I MUST GO!!!!

if you didn't do the swap yourself, i'd also make sure they don't have the injectors from the h23 in there... makes the car run really rough at anything above idle... the lame *** shop that did my swap tried that one.
Well I had the h22 running good in another car with no probs. The only thing I changed was the flywheel, dizzy, and new injectors.
I am leaning towards the ignition timing even though the dizzy is pretty much adjusted to the middle. Also I got some ebay plug wires. I know they are low quality so I might get some ngk wires.

Yep, your timing is off. I just did a swap that had the same issue, I spent days hoping it was anything else but that.

How old is the timing belt in your motor because it could have slipped and caused your problem. The same thing happened to me with about 70,000 on the engine.
hmm I don't really know the true miles on the motor because of it being a real jdm swap, but I check my t-belt before I put the motor in and it looked just fine. Its really just the idle. I adjust the ignition timing and got the car to run alittle more smooth but the idle always drops too low when I come to a stop. I have a vac line disconnected and the idle adjusted and it idles good..but when I plug in the vac line the idle messes up.
well i checked the o2 sensor by unplugging it and that seems ok. so my next step is the fuel filter and better quality wires ...my high rpm feels pretty good though...
Yeah my Timing belt looked fine to when i installed it. Turned out the Hydrolic Tensinor had failed. But it looked fine but the timing light said otherwise.
Ok acid I am not gonna over look the possibilty of wrong timing but I am gonna try afew more cheaper and easier stuff first. Also did your car drive smooth at higher rpm's?
double and triple check your vacuum hose routing. I had goofed and had a direct vacuum source routed to the EGR valve witch caused a very rough idle, but drove fine. Also if you removed the distributor at all, the ignition timing might be off, see if you can borrow a timing light from somebody.
I was able to drive it around. But I had to give it some gas to get it started and once I was driving it around if I took my foot off the gas it would shut off.
I didnt take it above 4k though, because I knew there was an obvious issue with timing somewhere.

well here is an update.. I found out that the rough idle is coming from a slight exhaust leak coming from my flexpipe (i think). However the car will stall from time to time if I have the idle adjusted to under 1k rpm.( IACV?) Also the car has been doing good. I went to the track yesterday and ran a 15.4. I was running my friends chipped p13 ecu ( yes a chipped p13). The ecu threw a 43 cel code but my stock p13 doesn't. That ecu didn't do too good on high end rpm. also my best 60ft was 2.4. I gotta work on that. looking to get some real headers, a better ecu with a 2step, and clear all my cel codes. Then go back to the track and see.
