will i just need to remove the grill, or the whole door panel?

 

I can't say for sure on a 90, but for the 94-97 you have to remove the whole panel

No, removing the door panel is easy and the clips, for the most part, don't break. I've removed my door panels plenty of times and never had a clip break

That being said, you can access the speaker without removing the entire door panel. There is a screw that is on the bottom of the grill. Unscrew it, and then you should be able to pop out the grill part and be able to change the speaker out.

 

i believe you have to remove the door panel on all 5th gen. and up
