Default matience light question...

i have a friend who bought an 08 honda civic LX sedan... the car was brand new when she bought it and now its at 5200 miles withought having an oil change and without having the matience light come on.. she calls the dealer and ask if she needed an oil change and they told her to just wait for the matience light to come out which indicates that she needs an oil change.. is this true? im use to always changing my oil at every 3000 miles but then again i never owned a new car LOL.. anyone has any inputs into this?

Well, when your light comes on you have 15% oil life left, anything below 10 and you risk messing with the oil pump.

Soooo, when the light comes on, its about that time to change the oil. Dont do it before since theres special oil for the break in period.

Sorry I forgot to put if your low on oil, otherwise its not a false statement

My last g/f messed hers up because she was careless and the tech said that if it goes below 10 and you keep driving it it could possibly mess with the oil pump. Which is why I said that, but I just forgot to put that she was driving it for like 7000 miles before she changed it.

Oh well

I don't know what a 'matience' light is.

But I do have a Maintenance light.

No need to get all butt hurt.

But I do apologize for not giving any input to your original post. Like others have stated before me, Honda won't change your oil until the car's oil life is <15%. So if your friend takes it easy it can easily go over 3000 miles without needing an oil change.
