ok so im putting in a short shifter and the plate that holds the ball has these 2 nuts that you have to unscrew, but the rod theyre screwed down onto isnt really a bolt or anything, it just kinda looks like a metal plug. well the nut wont screw off of it, its turns the whole bolt and since its a flat metal plate on the end of the bolt i cant grab it to hold it while i unscrewe. ive tried everything i can think of. what should i do?

you need a clamp to hold the other side. The other side is kind of rectangular.

 

yeah i know, but the plate is so flat that nothing grabs it.
