Default So I went ahead and got a s2k. I was asking about them right after my del sol got stolen.

So I picked up a 2000 sebring silver s2000. black and red interior.
It has 74xxx miles.
It needs some tlc but i hope to fix it slowly.
Firsts thing to do is:
Alarm
seat locks
fluids change.
The car already has a glass top without defroster so I'm guessing it's not a oem one.
It appears as it has been heavily modified in it's past and was returned to stock for a quick sale.
Some of the things that were left : front strut tower brace, rear lower tie bar, after market clutch( it's a heavy pp and engages right away) and rims. I still haven't had to much time to look over the car as I'm working 3 different jobs.
Other things that I saw that were not oem. Has a CF dash trim kit, the glove box is red and from what I gather it should of been black. shift boot is not oem colors.
right now my major concerns are the trans and diff. It appears as I have a 3rd gear grind or its the clutch noise on decel. and it seems that it may have a higher gear installed. the cluster is off about 8-10 m/h. and also there is some vibration in the rear during acceleration.
So I have a couple questions:
can I take it to the dealer and see if they can diagnose anything to been some of the recalls ?
Also how do I know for sure if it has a higher gear installed or not ?
is there any alarms that will work with the factory remote ?

anyways I guess it's too much too list/ask so I'll move on to the pics and see what people think.

You can get an alarm that is triggered on and off by your factory keyless entry but I would highly suggest a 2-way paging alarm. Please check out our A/V/S forum for more information on alarm setups.

If the top has no defrost then it is not OEM Honda. You probably have the MMY 00-01 frame with an aftermarket glass top on there. Nothing wrong with that.

Try changing your trans fluid and see if the grind goes away. Use Honda MTF. Change your diff fluid while your at it. I recommend Lubrication Engineers' Duolec 1605 Gear Lubricant. You can find it here.

The shaking on acceleration is probably going to be your rear axles. This would be the case if the car was lowered. You can swap your dif side cups from left to right and that will probably clear it up. Or you can try some axle (they call them drive shafts or half shafts) spacers that go between the dif and the axle. The vibration is caused by a wear spot that is created inside the of the axles cups.

Does the speedo read faster or slower then the car. You may have a gear installed (if it reads slower then the car is going) or you may have have a yellow box installed (if it reads faster then the car is going).

I would not recommend you take this car to the dealer. No problems you have described here are related to any recalls.

ok, well since its it has the rear window without defroster... its 100% aftermarket. but since it has been replaced, you dont have to worry about the plastic window tearing

the strut tower brace does nothing & the other mods can be replaced for reasonable prices since theyre not that serious of mods

during the decel, you have whats called clutch buzz. there was TSB for it with the stock clutch that was covered by the stock warranty. since yours is obviously voided (aftermarket clutch) it will not be covered. it does not do any damage to your trans, so its no real big deal.

for the higher gear concern...see if your gearing is similar to this. if so, its stock, if not, then its aftermarket
3rd gear, 3000 rpms = 30mph
6th gear, 3000 rpms = 55mph
6th gear, 4000 rpms = 75mph

if its within 1-2mph of the higher speeds, then i wouldnt worry about it. if it is significantly off, i would suggest buying this
http://www.ricks2k.com/products/yellowbox.php

if the rear vibrates during accel, have your fluids all changed (trans, diff, etc) with honda synthetic fluids or something comparable. if you still have the problem... you might need to replace the rear end. you can find some people selling 02+ rears on here or on s2ki.com. you can either do that or buy an upgraded rear, which can cost anywhere from $1k+. it could also be your axles, so i would have a mechanic take a look at it to diagnose the main problem

as far as alarms... i agree with white smoke. i would get a true alarm with a 2-way pager system

few words of advice get an oem honda badge for the back rip off the cf trim. You should know the difference between a grind and clutch buzz, you would only grind the gears while shifting into them, clutch buzz happens during deceleration while in gear. You probably have 4.44 or 4.56 gears if your speedo is off buy 8-9mph stock gears are 4.10. get a yellow box from comptech for the speedo to read the right speed. Last but not least plz drop the car.

the speedo read as it should. But when I line the car next to a friends car and try to go same speed(we both set the cruise control) the car is going slower than my cluster says.

How do you know the speedo is reading as it should then? lol Your friend probably has an analog speedo, they are often off by a few MPH. Also consider aftermarket wheels and or tires can cause your speedo to be off. The best way I have found to check this is to borrow a friends (or use your own) GPS and compare the two speeds.

I will try that.
How does the yellow box work ?
Does it calibrate it automatically or do I have to input rim size, tire size and what gear it has ?

You basically have to flip switches until the speed is correct. It's easier then it sounds... Like I said the GPS trick really helps.

that doesn't sound too bad.
Does anyone one know if someone other than the dealer carry the oem tweeters ?
