i have a 93 accord. F22A4 5SPEED. and i have a stage 3 clutch n lightened flywheel i'm getting ready to install in about a month.
one of the problems i forsee is the ignition timing. I know how to set it , thats no problem. but the marks are on the flywheel and there is that little rubber window that u remove to see them.
i need to know a good way to mark the flywheel.
paint pen?
I'm also doing a headswap so i cant just mark the dizzy with a sharpie.

dear hon2984, your flywheel has absolutelly nothing to do with the timing.... nothing... zero.. nada!
The timing assembly in on the opposite side of the engine, and you won't be touching that while installing your new flywheel or clutch.
Take the tranny out, undo the bolts that hold the clutch's pressure plate to the the flywheel.... remove the 6 bolts for the flywheel.... put the lightweight flywheel in... align your stage 3 disc, install the pressure plate (be sure to have a clutch alignment tool when doing this work, hopefully the clutch kit came with one)... put the tranny back and enjoy the new mod.
As for the head swap, i will assume that you're installing a f22a4 head on it, be sure to leave your piston #1 at TDC (top dead center), do that by spinning the crank bolt and looking carefully for the TDC marks.
Slide the time belt off the camshaft pulley, remove the head, put the new head in with the camshaft pulley already at TDC, and install it...slide the time belt over the pulley... and call it a day!

I have already adjusted Ignition timing on my car.
THERE IS A RUBBER WINDOW THAT U REMOVE TO VIEW THE IGNITION TIMING MARKS THAT BECOME VISABLE WHEN U TURN ON THE TIMING LIGHT.
i take it u have never run into the before.
the car is a 93 accord 5 speed EX F22a4. I have taken apart many engines I know what i'm talking about. I know how to put the engine in mechanical timing thats easy as well, i know how to change a clutch( just did one on a 91 GS teg a month ago). And the head is a F23 VTEC ported and polished with a ported n polished intake manifold.
I just want to be able to throw a timing light on it, so i need to know what to do.
My guess is to Set the motor to TDC with out the tranny on it. and make a diagram on a piece of paper, to remember how to install the flywheel, but i need something that will hold up over time in the bellhousing so when i get to the track i can retard the timing for the SPRAY.
why is that you wanna mark your flywheel again for?! If you are installing a new head, i don't really see why you want to mark the flywheel... oh well.... i guess you know what you're talking about!
lmao, i know what he's talkin about:

bottom left of the right page. there is alignment marks for the flywheel but i didn't do it. i set all timing on the opposite side of the engine with the exception of the dizzy.

the reason i'm installing the head is for performance and VTEC, but regardless, the ignition timing will not be correct untill you set it to spec, obviously if you remove the distributor you need to set the ignition timing back to get optimum performance.
What i'm worried about it marking the new lightened flywheel, when i got it i inspected it and there is not any mark.
I'm trying to build a street/strip car. NA on the street and Juice at the track. From what i'm told it is recommended to retard ignition timing a few degress when on the bottle. So I need to mark the flywheel with some thing that should be pretty permanent.
i'm kinda suprised no one has run into this problem.

There are 2 kinds of timing on an engine, Ignition and Valve. You are talking about valve timing, he is talking about ignition. There are TDC marks on the flywheel so you know where to set the advance on the ignition timing.
To the OP. There is a pin on the end of the crankshaft that the flywheel bolts to, or there is atleast an alignment hole to match up. Once you have the old flywheel off, line it up with the new one and use white out or paint or w/e and mark the same teeth, then make sure you line the flywheel up where its supposed to go on the crank. There is usuially a pin for it, but just in case there isnt, line it up with the little hole between the bolt holes.

right on , thanks! I didnt really know how to go about it. The block is also getting built. So i guess the best way to go about it would be set #1 to TDC, then find the marks, and mark whatever(flywheel and possibly the crank or block) to ease in realignment/installation, when i get the block back. then pull the head n everything else.

Not a problem to teach, but perhaps next time, you may want to do a lil more research before you think something has no refrence.

No need to mark the crank, the flywheel side already has an alignment mark set in it. It will either be a pin or a hole, and there will be a matching mark on the fly wheel. The teeth should actuially already be marked for TDC, but if not just lay the flywheels ontop of each other and duplicate the mark with something light coloured. I suggest white out, as it works best againt the timing light.

once again thanks, i'm waiting on a few parts but i'm gonna be posting a build thread in about a month. I'm shooting for 190 CHP NA 310 on SPRAY.
u will see how it turns out.
