Default Got a bunch of questions

Well first off I am new to the site...
I recently bought a 94 civic si with 102k on the clock for 1k, thought i was getting the deal of a lifetime.... till it threw a rod on the way home.... so now i need a new motor, the car has a new clutch so i was wondering which motors would bolt right up to that trans and would be a direct fit?? And of course i am looking at jdm motors and would love to get more power of course. So far the motors i have seen and of course for a budget are the vtec d15 (130hp) , I think i saw a d16 vtech (137hp?) and of course the b16 first gen (160hp) all under a grand, i would like to go with the b series if it is a easy and affordable swap...
Any help and points or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

Any D series motor will bolt right up to your trans that you already have. If you are positive its an SI, it should have come with a d16z6, which is "vtec". As far as the B16, it wont bolt up to your trans.

First off, it's VTEC, not V-TEC or V-TECH
Secondly, I'd go with the D16Z6 or D16Y8 (basically the same motor, SOHC VTEC) since that's what you had originally in your car, should bolt right up.

B series motors will not bolt up to the tranny you have. I would go with the jdm d15b. Theyre pretty cheap and theyre a surprisingly fun swap to drive.

Thanks for the fast responses, yeah the b16 would have been nice but cost more anyway, so d15, or d16 it will be then i guess... haha besides i can sell the head off the old motor and make a bit of my money back right

Bolt ons, IMO, are rather useless.

Best bang for your buck: Turbo

x2

and no, you probably wont be able to get much for the head of the old motor, maybe 100 bucks at best. Just save it, and have replacement parts....go trubo and you'll more then likely need them if you;re a "push it" type of guy haha

Hhhhmmm maybe i should explain more, It is a daily driver, but I used to driving a 850 turbo volvo with 3 in dp to full exhaust no cat, high flow injectors, tuned ecu, making 301whp with a few little other mods.
I just want the car to be a bit more responsive. Have better throttle response a bit better hp nothing huge

Your Volvo reference confused me. You don't want a crazy modded civic...but you cared to mention you were used to driving a 300whp swedish car?

To answer previous questions, though...the D series swaps that come from motor swap emporiums are sometimes in shitty shape. Buy from a reputable dealer. http://www.hmotorsonline.com is great. there was a website called N1racing or N1 motors or something. Great prices...good reputation. Google it.

A full B16A swap can be had now a days for like $1800ish with everything you need to swap it in. Since your car was an Si, you will only need to make provisions for a knock sensor (one wire, super easy). It's a great bang for your buck swap. 170hp is not bad for a 2300lb car.

There are also LS swaps for around $1200ish or B20 engines for $700ish combined with an ITR or B16 trans...that would be an excellent combo. The B16 trans is around $300-500 commonly. Expect to pay $700+ for an ITR trans.
