Default turbo question?

ok i have a 97 prelude with headers exhaust and intake and was thinking of going boost.
now i was wondering what would be a good size turbo?
and a ball park price for it?
or would i be better off n/a?

if you're saying this, i also +1 to sticking to n/a.

if you're not sure what you're doing, you better have a fatass wallet.

I guess what he means by going N/A instead of turbo is...Turbo can be very complex for a first build because theres just sooo much to cover and any little forgotten thing can affect max performance which is what I think we all go for..It's a huge investment of both time and money. Its not just about what size and how much and where can I get it..

well if you got deep pockets and you aren't afraid to ask a lot of questions and mess up a couple few times then proceed at your own risk.

Depending on how much power your willing to put out (mind you power and price run hand in hand) and how well your going to build the motor for it, if at all... a GT25R is a good place to start perhaps on stock internals running 7-8 Psi boost ballpark of 250HP -+. now if you wanna go bookoo-lude then your looking in the ballpark of GT30R to GT35R on as much boost as you want probably somewhere around 20-30 Psi making like 450-600 give or take.

Now take into account that a ball bearing GT30-35R is gonna run you into the thousands of dollars right away anyway then you need the fuel management (preferably Hondata S300) $800 or AEM more like $1500 750-1000 cc fuel injectors $355 8.5:1 pistons and forged rods $800-1000 boost cams $500 valve train $750 fuel pump and /8 fuel line $200-300 and thats just the stuff off the top of my head from my last build so thats just the tip of the ice burgh.

So if your thinking of running boost i guess you just gotta ask yourself one question... Do you feel lucky?
So if your still thinking of boost

No need to go crazy with your first turbo build .. you can turbo on a healthy stock h22a4 block for under $ 1500 + ~ $ 500 in tuning .. This will not be a very reliable setup so don't expect to be boosted this way for long. For a total of about $ 2000 your motor will see about 280-310whp on about 8psi of boost on a regular t3/t04e turbo. Tuning is the most important component in a turbo build. The above price is for parts and tuning only, labor is understood as your own time+tools.

N/A is a lot safer than turbo, with turbo you can blow your engine and spend lots of money in fixing things, Stick with N/A.

N/A

Not to be rude but I think boost is way over your head at this point. It takes alot of research and money.

Don't turbo the 'lude. No need for it. The turbo is just going to be an expensive waste of money. It's a V-Tec for a reason. Lots of power and long lasting.

...my 2 sents.

okay I wouldn't even think about going turbo on a lude if you don't know how to work on your own car. Also you need to have a good pocket book. I did put one on mine but I'm also been an auto tech for the last 12+ years. The problem with a lude turbo is that it cost about $5k just to start. The stock engine won't last for long on a good tune even less with a bad tune. Its just the way the engine was built , not ment for boost. If you want it to last you need to spend another $3+k on a build engine. If you do decide to put one on DON'T get one of those Ebay specials you will be sorry not long after you put it on. Piece one together and before that do RESEARCH on how a turbo works and what your goals are. Thats my 2 cents. good luck.

N/A is not cheap either. For more hp, you will STILL need management and new internals. meeting hp goals with N/A will be far more expensive than a turbo. 260hp on a turbo is way cheaper than 260hp N/A.
