Going from VTEC to non-VTEC. Quick wiring question
My 92 hatch used to have a b16 (vtec of course!). After that blew up I bought the car and swapped in an obd1 LS. The ecu plugs have been wired for vtec, and I have identified three of the wires for vtec. (I think there are only 3 anyways). I know I have to unplug those three vtec wires from the ecu plug and replug them somewhere else. Where do I plug them into? 92 hatch running obd1 b18b1 and stock obd1 LS ecu. My car wont start without these wires re-configured!
i've had no problems running vtec engine harness onto an LS no wiring needed. i just bundled the additional vtec wires and ziptied them somewhere safe. did this exact same swap two weeks ago when the homie's b16 start knocking. swapped in an LS. when my ecu got jacked i ran an LS ecu just fine for the time being. your no start is from something else. first things to look for after a swap is grounds. is your fuel pump priming? is your starter cranking?
Im talking about the wires going to the connectors to the ECU under the glovebox. Where you pin them into the A, B, or D connectors.
I checked all over the engine and bay for grounds with a voltmeter. Grounds are good. Fuel pump comes on and sounds normal when I turn the key to the second turn. Smells like gas after that. I know Its getting gas. Spark plugs were all checked and have decent looking spark on them. Good, fresh gasoline. Ecu is wired correctly now. Starter is cranking. It sounds normal when trying to start, like it should just start right up when cranking it, but it just wont fire. Carb cleaner and pumping the gas pedal have not worked either. Im clueless at this point.

Try removing a spark plug, plug it back into the plug wire, and have a friend spin the engine over - watch the plug and see if it sparks or not.
If it doesn't spark you've got an issue with likely the ignitor, coil, or just replace the entire distributor including ignitor and coil.

BTW:
There are ZERO wiring changes needed to swap an LS engine into a formerly VTEC car provided the cars/engine's OBD status isnt changing.
Example:
Take an Integra GS-R 94-95 with it's B18C1 engine and it's VTEC, IAB, knock sensor wiring, etc. and swap in a 94-95 B18B non-VTEC engine in. Plug the GS-R engine harness into the LS engine and leave the VTEC stuff hanging, IAB plug hanging, knock sensor plug hanging, etc. and it will crank up and run flawlessly with an OBD1 LS ECU.

I did that to test the spark plugs, all four sparked a decently clean spark.
As for the electrical. Maybe someone was not so honest when they sold me the motor and ecu. Is there any way to check for sure which OBD (0,1,2) the engine and ECU are?

ECU's are easy to tell. OBD0 would have a clear spot with an LED on the ECU to check for codes, OBD1 has 3 connectors. OBD2a/b would have four. and you cant plug one harness into the other unless you have the jumper harness. like i said you wouldn't need to mess with wiring on neither side, ecu or engine side, for a vtec to non-v. as for engine, most likely if everything plugged in it is the right OBD. Distributor would be two plugs for OBD1, one big plug for obd2.
edit:: oh yeahhh check for cam timing. make sure your firing order is correct.

lol im having the same probelem but in a obd2 chassis and motor. the motor turns overbut refuses to start. hell will even act like its going to. blah. im ill with myne.
how u can find ur problem cuz maybe it will fix myne to.

Well, from what Im gathering online... It could be my timing, main relay, and/or firing order. I guess Id tell you to check to make sure you're getting fuel, if yes-check for spark. Check your timing also. After that, check the main relay (common no-start problem) this site may help with that. http://techauto.tripod.com/mainrelay.htm
If your main relay is good, check firing order. But Im not sure how to do that just yet.
