I had one of the headlight lens's replaced on my 99 ek. Unfortunatly the one whom resealed the new lens on the head light assembly itself didn't do a well enough job, I am collecting water on the inside of the lens.

I assume the fix is to take the lens back off of the assembly and reseal it? However, after taking the headlight assembly completely out today, I can't seem to get the clear lens off from the rest of the assembly, assuming the sealent used is going to hold strong. Any ideas?

 

You have to put them into the oven and bake them off.

Someone will chime in with the correct time and temperature to use.

Wow, whats the risk of melting the plastic? And or any other sort of damage?

 

As long as you do it right you won't damage anything.

Everyone that does DIY black housing lights goes through this process. Its not very hard at all, I just dont remember the temps/times off the top of my head.

I found one thread in regards to painting the housing black, which sad to heat the stove to warm, then bake for 15 minutes. If anyone knows if this is correct, let me know.

Well, I went ahead and tried baking the headlight assembly at 200 degrees for about 15 minutes and it worked perfectly, so if anyone else runs into this issue, thats the way to go. It pulled apart like a pliable gum.

 

go back to the guy that did it and tell him to fix it.

Normally in a case like this, I would hae. But it was a shady operation and I didn't feel comftorable taking it back, which triggerd me to do this myself.
