New oil pan (2000 ex) - clarification on liquid gasket application
the manual says:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
Install the pan gasket on the oil pan.
Apply liquid gasket to the block mating surfaces of the oil pan, then install it. Apply liquid gasket to the shaded area.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
So in layman's terms...
1. clean the surfaces of both the oil pan and the engine block (razor blade old gasket off and clean with a rag with brake cleaner sprayed on it?)
2. lay the gasket on the new pan.
3. apply the liquid gasket on the block ONLY around the whole perimeter (following the inside of the bolt holes).
4. bolt up in the order shown in the diagram.
-----
tips, comments, etc... just want to do it right. I am not a mechanic, but I am OCD and like to know exactly what I am doing before I even get the parts to do it.
Thanks.
