Sorta, they all share the same electronics. But the D16Z6/D15Z1 distributors have a different mounting flange than the D15B7/D15B8 distributors. The DOHC OBD1 ZC distributors are the real oddball here, the electronics are the same but thats about it, they use a very different mounting flange, they have one really long foot, and while the shaft looks the same, the hole drilled in the end to lock the 2 pronged cam that goes into the camshaft is drilled about 90 degrees differently than every other d-series distributor. Basically swap electonics if a sensor is bad, and in the case of D15B7/B8 vs D16Z6/D15Z1 you can swap the shafts if the bearing goes bad. Hope that helps.

I am in the process of rebuilding my d16z6. i swapped a y8 head on it, but i put a bisimoto stage 2 cam in it that was meant for the z6. i have an adjustible cam gear for the z6 also. heres where my issue comes, the distributor doesnt fit, so i was going to buy a y8 distributor and wire it all up by hand. so i was just wondering if this will work? or what kind of problems i could run into with timing.

Get a D15B7/D15B8 distributor, it bolts up perfectly and plugs in. You can do what you're talking about, but its more work obviously.

Meaning that buying a new distributor that already has the correct wiring (a D15B7/D15B8 one) is less work than having to rewire the plug(s) of the harness or of the distributor (a D16Y8 one).

Good point, so you don't think there will be any problems with the z6 cam in the y8 head?
