Default 98 Prelude help!

Hello,

Hey guys, I just got a used 1998 Honda Prelude not too long ago, and I want to swap my stock engine out for a Euro Type-R Accord engine. In order to do the swap, is it necessary to also swap out my transmission? I'm not sure what the gear ratios are for the stock Prelude and the Type-R Accord. In addition, my friend told me that he could get me a Type-R Accord ECU for $500, but then I heard that it'd be better to just by a Hondata ECU and have it programmed for maximum performance. Does anybody have any pointers for this novice? I'd greatly appreciate it!

-Thanks

You can use your original transmission and as for the ecu.... it should come with the euro r motor. 500 bucks seems a little out of wack also.

When I asked my friend if the engine came with the Euro R ECU, he told me that it didn't, which is why he said that he could get the engine for me for $1500. He also told me that I could still run my 98 Lude with the stock ECU and the Euro R motor. Is this even possible? Lastly, is the Euro R motor worth it? I've read about the engine acting funny due to the different type of gas we have here in the US, as well as it not being able to pass smog checks.

its definitely worth it! Their gas is no different. You might wanna run Shell V-Power all the time which is 94 octane. As for the ecu just run your regular p13 with a chip. you would be better off with an outrageous chip.

Thanks for the info, bro! I've actually decided to hold off on the Euro-R until the summertime. Things are getting a little too costly... However, I was wondering if you knew where I could get a H22A OBD2 Long Block Engine for my lude. My head cylinder area is cracking, and I don't want to shell out soo much cash in order to get that area sleeved. On top of that, my engine already has 150,000+ miles on it, and I think that it's time to start with a new (used) engine. If you can help me with my engine problem, like you did earlier, I'd greatly appreciate it.

-Thank you
