got my black 2008 Si early may.
i want to buy a few new goodies for her. i think some HID's would be a good start. i checked out the ones by retrosolutions, and i'm having a huge debate within my head, 6K or 8K? and, are hi/lo necessary? i'd love to hear your opinions. Also, cleaning strategies needed, i try so hard to avoid the little water marks, but i still have some left everytime. whats the best way to avoid them? And last but not least, i love O.Z. chrono HT wheels, would white ones look good on a black si?

or would that just be ugly?
Thanks for all of your opinions

the output you get really doesnt matter. 6k will give you more light on the road than 8k but 8k will be more blue. you dont need high/low i believe.
best way to avoid water marks on your car after you wash it is to first off make sure your car is in shade and dry it completely lol. use good products too, dont go get the cheap stuff to take care of you car.
those oz rims look good, white should look good. they remind me kind of stock rsx rims.

i've got a black si too....and the water marks sure are annoying. best thing to do is dry it right after u wash it. also, i like to use the "Nanowax" spray wax....it makes it shine so nice. the nanowax is good for a quick wipedown and leaves its perfectly shiny. i dont know the brand...but its in a blue spray bottle
as for hid's.....i wouldnt get over 5000K

- 6000k or lower HID's would be fine.
- Wash your car in the shade and don't use cheap products, like previously mentioned.
- Yes, I think those wheels would look pretty sweet with a Black SI. Hopefully you don't mind cleaning your wheels weekly.

First black car?
I owned a black car once, I dont think I ever will again. Beautifull when clean, but just about impossible to keep that way.

the rims remind me of stock rsx rims too. but as for HID's i think 6K would be good. 8K is what i have and havnt pissed anybody off. i also have mine aimed perfectly. You could look into getting a retro fit projection headlight kit that would maximize your light distibution but it cost a nice junk of change.

thanks for all of the replies. I think i'll go with the 6K lights.
I was trying to find those wheels, but the only website that sells the O.Z. chrono HT is tirerack.com, and they dont have it in white. im assuming that means ill have to order it internationally if i want it?

I reccomend Meguiars quick detailer between washes and ScratchX and thier clay bar kit.
Also pick up a 6" orbital buffer by Ryobi. It can be purchased for around $30 at The Home Depot.

Sounds like you had a plug and play set up and not a retro fit. The only way to do HID right is a retrofit.
If you are cheap and only have cash for plug and play an effective method would be baking your headlights on 200-250 degrees in your oven to soften the adhesive so you can remove the lens and paint the lower half of the low beam reflector flat black. By doing this you wont have any light shining upward toward oncoming traffic.
Next time you see a reflector based HID set up at night look at the lower half of the head light and you will observe no light being reflected.

I was looking at the HID kids available from the marketplace, and they all seem to be Plug and Play. Where do you buy the retrofit ones, and what makes them better anyway?
With plug and play your are putting a zenon bulb into a halogen housing. With that you get scattered light and glare. By using a retro fit youre installing a system specifically for zenon bulbs
customlightz.com
The choice is yours. Most people who do plug and play are after a look, looking for attention or frugal or all of the above.

go to 8thcivic.com and click the "color specific thread" and then click the color of your car. it shows other people's civics who have the same color car as you and what theyve done. if you cant find it pm me, its not that easy to find.....ANYWAYS, ide go 6k with amber foglights, black stock wheels with a red lip, type r red H's, and SLAM the car...that would look rawwwwww

that does sound pretty sweet. i know how to get to the color specific threads so i'll def check those out. But, what do you mean by black stock wheels? and where can i buy type r red H's? i think i am going to go with 6K, but im confused as to how customlightz.com operates. Do i buy the HID's and send them directly to customlightz.com or do i take off my headlights and send the entire package to them? sorry about all the questions, im new at this.
Thanks again
Thanks again
here is the link...just click the color of your car.. i really recomend becoming a member of this site, so many question can be answered, and updates too: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums...reads/
the type r H's can be found on either site : autocityimports.com , procivic.com, passwordjdm.com i recomend procivic, they have basically everything for our car. they have the foglights too.
black wheels...i mean paint them black with a red lip, you'll see a couple like that when you click the link, like this one:
for the lights...i really dont know.. i bought 6k hids but didnt do anything with customlightz.com

I got Customlightz retro's on my SI (TSX projectors). I went with 5K because I needed more visable light on the road. I am old and half blind. My retro has Blue LED's around the projector. Bit of a waste, they are on a seperate switch and I never turn them on.

Like everyone has stated, dry your car right after you wash it. Btw, drying does not mean driving around the streets to blow dry the car. I use Mequires Water Magnet towels. I also use a a little compressed air in the cracks to get excess water out. After everything is dry I will go over the car with Meguires Utilimate Detailer.
Personally, I am not big on Black rims. I perfer the Gunmetal.
