Default B18c1 rebuild

hey guys im new to the forum actually new to imports all together.. a few months back i had the pleasure of witnessing a FWD mitsu stomp a mud hole in a corvette Zo6 after that it became a goal for me to find a rather cheap stock import n build it for a dailly driver yet still have some ***** on tap....i picked up a 94 GSR integra that i had a buddy of mine find for me (since i knew nothin about hondas)...

My q is what modifications can be done to these cars to really bring out their true colors ? ...my buddy that helped me find the car will be helping me tear into it since im not very good a turning wrenches..i want to keep the car N/A if at all possible i figure a 300whp all motor car would be pretty peppy...wont stomp any vettes im sure but still turn a few heads... any info or articles that can posted for me to read on builds others have done on B18 motors would be awesome.....ive done a few searches myself n come up pretty empty...prolly cause im not too sure what the hell i should be looking up...one thing ive noticed is alot of parts cross over from different modles n cars...this alone confuses the hell outa me

300 whp on a gsr will be pretty hard and extremely expensive, and most likely not driveable as a daily driver. 300 whp FI will be fairly easily and much cheaper than an NA build. It can also be done on a stock block with a few head upgrades and a good tune, as long as the block is in good condition.

My buddies run low 12's with their turbo GSR's and LS's and a few have done it for under $3k and they are pretty reliable since they got really good tunes.
I've spent almost $1500 on an NA build and run high 13's, but it's a great daily driver and very reliable.

Good luck in whatever you decide to build

Yeah, you'll need like $20k to build a 300 hp N/A motor. And that's probably a conservative guess.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an all motor junkie myself. Plus before you put that much power in the car, you have to make sure the car can handle it, also expensive.

My approach has always been build the car first. Start with suspension, shocks and springs. Then sway bars (upper front, front lower strut tie, rear lower strut tie, rear upper strut tie, rear c-pillar). Tein makes real good stuff, IMO. Their prices are pretty competitive too.

Then move onto brakes, because with 300hp, you're going to want to be able to stop. Nothing like Brembo.

Some good aftermarket companies, but by all means not a complete list: AEM, megan racing, tein, skunk 2, apexi, spoon, brembo, koni, tokico, wilwood, RSR, Greddy, and many more.

Check out their websites, poke around. You'll start to get an idea of what you'll need. Good luck with your build, welcome to the import scene. Have fun.

This isnt like domestic land, most imports are going to need turbos to get them going. Getting 300whp on a N/A build is going to be fruitless and a waste of time, I am not bashing all motor its great, it has its place. Its just not here.

If you have money to throw around go for it otherwise save up 5-6k build up the motor and boost it and go walk some more z06's.

well looks like the majority has spoken....even tho the idea of N/A was nice it seems my hp goal was a lil outa reach..yeah i def dont want to spend a small fortune to reach my goal so a turbo seems to be my only route...and from what i understand a low compression mild boost car can still run pump gas n be a blast to drive....my main reason for stearin away from FI was it more complex in terms of needing more tuning and a stand alone ECU..which for hondas the hondata S300 seems to be the product of choice...my buddy who's more a honda guy then me says the company full race makes bolt on street turbo kits that accept AC and PS still so i may look into what they have....thanks again for all the replys guys keep the ideas and suggestions coming...any tips from ya'lls experiances would be great also

Yes n/a builds are expensive, boost is more bang for your buck. Although I myself am an N/A guy, my na jizzer aint close to a boosted jizzer.

in that case i would recomend turbo, take the head in and have a P-P, valve springs and retainers(supertech are good), either port match the stock intake or get one like the edelbrock victorx, leave the stock cams, vlaves, and complete stock bottem end, get you a nice turbo kit, cant loose with full race, and tune it
and tune it well, even good parts go bad with a bad tune

if you do all this, depending what turbo use use you can get upward of 500 hp with the right tune, i would recomend going that much on stock block for a daily tho

If your gonna do it. Do it right the first time. Head work is nice but on a turbo car its all about building the block first im talking hot tanking, boring, crank polish and rotating assymbly balance. On a GSR intake mani's come second go with a skunk2 or edelbrock they have some nice results with turbos , and then the head work. Invest in forged internals and look into sleeving the block. Use quality parts(ARP, WIESCO, EAGLE, Golden Eagle) Dont skip out on quality. But first of all just sit on honda-tech for an hour or so a night for the next week and learn about turbo basics and turbo theory it will help you a whole heap down the road. For the 300 hp goal i recommend a Bore size of 81.5 with 9:1 pistons eagle rods and ARP bolts and studs all around. Turbo Kits are a huge waste of money. You can piece together a quality kit part by part and save a thousand dollars or more which you can waste on the head lol . Go into the turbo forum and there will be lots of recommendations for Manifolds And Turbos for your goals. Stay away from EBAY!

Thank You And Goodnight and Welcome To Your New Life
