Cams Super Charger or Turbo
Ok I am leaning towards getting cams for my integra ls because they r cheap and seem pretty realiable. how do these compare to a super charger or turbo. Also what type of Hp and torque gains should i expect from about 800 cams
Ok.. Cams are not in the same ballpark or even sport as a supercharger or turbo. You need to do a bit more research.
Superchargers and turbo create power by compressing air then feeding it to the engine.
Superchargers and turbo chargers try to acheive the same thing, they do it differently however.
Supercharger = parasitic, compressor is spun up by a belt driven method, produces low amounts of boost, the newly compressed air goes to the intake manifold and you get more power assuming your fuel ratio is correct , boost around 6-8 psi (good for like 85-100 hp)
Turbo Charger = more efficient, more plumbing, more parts to break down, compressor is spun using otherwise wasted exhaust velocity boost is anywhere from 6-40 psi (good between 85 - 600hp)
Cam gears = no boost (not even a proper term when discussing cams), not related at all to turbo or supercharging, it allows your engine to make more power by modifying the valve timing (lift and duration) thus allowing your engine to gulp more air, and hopefully earlier (with cam gears) during each stroke. This done alone with proper fuel should give you roughly 8-13 hp
You generally can have upgraded cams on a Supercharged OR turbocharged car. But GENERALLY only have either ONE of a supercharger or turbo on your car.
-Rage
Edit: NOS is also another form of forced induction similar to superchargers or turbochargers, but instead of compressing air and throwing it into the intake manifold, it takes N20 which is full of dense oxygen and shoves it in...it works just like fast and furious, without the floorboards breaking up. <hopefully>
