Default Timing on a H23 Si??? I need help!

My brothers timing belt popped on his '92 Prelude Si, and I spent all day yesterday trying to fix it. So I get it all back together and go to crank it and of course, the timings off. This is my first time messing with a DOHC (do all DOHCs have timing balancers?? wtf), and I need some advice on getting the timing right. I cant find any manuals so this is my last resort. Thanks!

U dont even need to use the balancer belts. Ur motor can run without it. If the timing belt broke tho more than likely the valves are bent because its a DOHC

All the marks have got to be up with the tension on the belt. I just went through this procedure and you may have to play around one tooth on the cam sprocket to make sure it happens. You are supposed to turn the engine over manually and observe the TDC marks to make sure they stay lined up. Did you observe the timing mark in the vicinity of the flywheel when you were doing the job?

I know exactly what u mean when it comes to moving the cam sproket while putting the belt on. I assume theres marks on the the flywheel when ur at TPC and obviously the starter has to be off to see them, right? Yesterday, I had the starter off to break the bolt on the harmonic balancer, and i wasnt paying any attention to marks on the flywheel. When I put it back together last night i purposely didnt tighten that bolt all the way for ease of taking it back apart. Plus that starter is a bitch. When i was working on it today i left the starter on, but i guess it needs to come off to see the marks. Ill check that out tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

don't need to pull the starter.. just to the right of the starter there is a black rubber plug, pull it out and align the plus sign on the indicator, that is TDC
